hey guys!
need a new camera.
especially since im headed to port hardy with serengetti in two weeks!!!!
looking for something with good zoom (whale and dolphin pics) and something that's got good shock, water resistance for typical fishing trips.
also looking to NOT break the bank....
any tips?
i figure who better to ask about tough cams than fishermen!!??!?!
thanks and cheers, gw

I have both and took them both to Hippa Island last month. The Rebel will do just about everything and the olympus fits in my pocket. A plus I recently learned, the pics from the olympus can be easily loaded on this site.
I got them both on e-bay, the Rebel was refurbished from Henry's in Toronto.

I picked up a Panasonic video camera takes 14MP stills and 1080 HD video.
Duel SD cards slots. Water proof to 3 meters. Works awesome underwater.
Runs about 300 bucks at bestbuy. Totally worth it.
Oh and you can pull stills out of your video footage.

Fujifilm xp50 ... 14 megfapixel, full 1080 hd video, all other specs easily found online. Comes in five colors and is a steal of a deal at around 189 I believe.. Great camera!

I run the canon rebel dslr with some zoom lenses for stills and just got my gopro hero 2 in the mail today. 1080 p video and comes with a waterproof case to 60 meters. Plus i can take it hunting and quading with the optional handlebar mount.
My buddy just picked one up and has used his and they work great. Wide angle lens and easy to use.
I ordered saturday online and they shipped monday and here weds. Great service so far
I would go with the canon d20. Waterproof, shockproof. 5x optical zoom which is good for a waterproof camera. And it's a canon, so you know the quality is good.

I am going to buy it as soon as I get my next paycheck.

i have an olympus tough 8010; current model is the 810. From thr research i have done, and froom looking at all the other under water cams (photo, not vid) i found it to be the best. One note tho - don't expect an underwater cam to take GREAT pics out of the water; that's what DSLR is for - the tough is the closest thing to indestructable (full metal case including lens cover) as you are going to find for under 500 bucks.

hey thanks for all the input guys!
i've been surfing the topic lots.
biggest snag i'm finding is it looks like all the waterproof cams are lacking in the zoom department....was hoping for 10-12X-ish zoom....
gonna hit best buy this weekend and choose.
thanks again for all the tips.
cheers, gw
