I like collecting old fishing gear. I bought these for 1$ each at a garage sale today, 2 PENN reels and a Game Getter

is the 209 a direct drive?

handle needs to spin to let line out?

I just fiddled with it and its like any other reel, if the drags loose you can pull line out without the handle spinning

I only flyfish but like collecting all types of fishing gear so I dont know much about these types of reels

Those are cool, likely pricey when new! Good find!

Some PENN and other brands are very collectable when old. I have found a few at garage sales that are worth a good chunk or coin

I've got one of those 209's. Works as good as the day I got it.

BTW, its on one of my downrigger rods, used it for years in Ontario for steelhead and salmon.
