hey guys, for the 2-3 people on this site that I dont argue with, is there any point in targeting pike at slave? plan on eating my share of eyes this weekend, but pike are alot more fun to catch than eyes, so I'm wondering if after we catch our supper for the day, would a 5 of diamonds land me some pike? or are they fairly rare and dont waste my time bothering?

Ive never fished slave. But a pike is a pike! 5 of dimes is always a good hook to use. I also have had great luck on pike in the summer by using the rapala clackin raps trolling at about 2.5mph and 3mph. Good luck!

They are in the lake and there are some big ones but Slave is not a realy great lake for pike IMO. I dont fish the rest of the lake much but at the east end I think your best crack at a good one is up the north shore or in the river. The usual pike hooks will work, a fire tiger rattling rap or large floating rapala are among my favorites. All my biggest ones have come on bait.

I have never been to Slave, staying in the middle south of the lake at spruce point park, looking on google maps there is a bay just southwest of the campsite with a creek or river flowing into the bay, probably ALOT further then it seems on google maps lol

Trolled spoons in front of Hilliard's Bay beach last year at this time of year with the kids. Caught pike after pike. Not huge though, but kept the kiddies entertained. Even caught a few eyes.

strawberry creek is about 6kms from spruce point....and its much better early in the spring.

fishing the deep bay north east from the camp ground we landed several pike each day...enough so that we switched to titanium rigs as we were losing too many mono ones.

id say we caught about 20 pike in the week up there with two for sure over 5 lbs....the rest were an average of 2-3 lbs.

I have seen MANY really nice pike come out of the east side of the lake, pike easily in the 8 - 12 lb range. Small pike are really easy to catch in that lake.

This momma was caught almost exactly three years ago just north of Hilliards Bay:
