So..............in the market for my first crossbow and had 3 options in mind. Price all around the same, but not really an issue. I was wondering if anyone could insight me with feedback on any of these

1. Barnett Revolution Avi kit
2. Exomax
3. Horton 225

Thanks

I have an Exomax being shipped to me........

I looked at some prices. At BassPro Excalibur Exomax with package is $830. Horton Legacy 225 with package is $700 and Barnett Revolution AVI package is $470 (not at BP though). Package contents vary with quantity of accessories and quality (scopes for instance).

Barnett is a compound and hey......I didn't know that Horton was making recurve crossbows. Excalibur only makes recurves.

So all I'm saying is price is not really close.....and I don't have any real operational experience with any of these..........but I have an Exomax coming to me:D. I'd pass on the Barnett.

Got a place in mind where you are going to buy one of these?

For the ultimate in crossbows take a look at:
http://www.talismancrossbows.co.uk/index.html

Otherwise Bill Troubridge (Excalibur) undoubtedly makes a first class product and they're made in Canada too. With back-up and service bar none!

I prefer to roll my own and consider the crossbow to be an art form just as some conventional bows and guns are.

So we have come to this point finally. It was only a matter of time. Is the mantis a firearm which requires a PAL to operate?

I would love to see a bolt ripping 500fps.

I have been using an excalibur bow for over twelve years and have taken a deer with it every year that I have owned it. I hunt in Ontario were the archery season allows crossbows and lasts from October 1st through December 31 so I have used it alot in all kinds of weather and have never had any problems. I have probably logged more hours hunting with it than all my guns combined. I can't speak to the other models you mentioned but my excalibur has been extremely good and reliable.

The model I have is no longer made, it is an exocet with 175 pound draw.

I hunt with a Barnett Rhino.
It's light to carry, mounted w/ a scope. It's deadly. I took the head off of Luke Skywalker at 25m. (son's action figure).
I used to hunt with a Starfire ll. It comes with pin sights and is also acurate. It's a little heavier than the Rhino.I killed deer and a bull moose with it. It's currently in the bargain finder.
I use 125 grn Thunderheads with both as 100's were to lite and the arrow would fishtail all over the place.

I too am from Ontario,
Crossbow hunting is extremely popular in that province as the firearm hunting opportunity is limited in Southern ON. Cross bow enthusiasts really only have one brand out there. Excaliber.
I bought a cheap one at first, a Eastman x bow, fifth shot the string snapped at an indoor range. Luckily I wasn't hunt too bad.. it snapped a guy 10 feet away across the arm. I bought an excaliber and the difference is incredible. So simple, so accurate. I bought the slower pheonix model (305fps).. no problem hitting apples at 40+ yards. I have shot a friends exomax and the same can be said. They (recurves) are a bit wider as you know, so stalking through brush is more difficult than a compound xbow.
You really just need to try the excaliber to notice the quality difference, ask around for a try.
just my 2 cents..

I purchased a Horton Xpress in 99 still use it today have never did anything to it a it still shoots as well as the new Excalibers, which my 4 buddies bought. They keep trying to get me to buy one, but why the Horton is a compound which means it's smaller and goes through the bush alot easier. I'll just see how their Excalibers hold up after 11 years
