Wondering if anyone knows the water conditions for either river. Was contemplating between the 2 rivers. Planning on going for a day trip on Friday with my little brother.

I hit up both streams in the beginning of July and both were flowing very high and dirty. Wanna make sure they're good to go my next outing!

looking at the flow charts on the enviroment alberta website, both rivers are flowing pretty high right now.
Freeman is at 68 m/s where normal is around 10.
Little Smoky is at 254 where 50-60 is normal.

so i would venture to guess that they are both probably pretty dirty and extremely high and unfishable right now. good news is that they are starting to come down and if the weather holds for the weekend and next week, they should be fishable by end of next week/weekend for sure.

I'll be fishing the Freeman this weekend.
I'll let you know how it is.
Also remember the flow chart for the Freeman is near fort assinaboine.
I'll be fishing it upstream and should be more clear and lower than there.

Okay thanks for the help guys, I guess I will have to postpone as much as I don't want too. And yeah that would be great if you could let me know how it went this weekend. Just fire me a pm if you want.

The Athabasca is way down and starting to clear. Things have been relatively dry for the past few days. Cmon up, I don't think you will be disappointed.

freeman would be my choice over the Embarass. the Embarass if you can find the schools of grayling can be a fun river, but locating the grayling can be challenging.

the freeman on the other hand is full of eager grayling and a fun little river to fish.
