I'm hoping to get up to the Blackstone Gap NW of Nordegg this year. I had heard the road has been upgraded - can anyone give me some information on the road condition. I don't have a truck, but is it now accessible by car?

Thanks!

If you wanna go fishing....then just park at the yellow bridge at the foot of the huge hill. Walk and wade upstream...you aren't that far from the Gap anyways. And besides, the fishing upstream of the Gap is not as desirable as downstream IMO.

If it is the same as it was 2-3 years ago, your car would not make it past the big hill as it was severly rutted.

theres new oil field roads all over back there. the last time i was back in to the gap though you still needed a 4x4 somegood sized ruts and a washout n one spot.

Been a while since I have been back there....in the fall the road was good in terms of being "Solid"....no need for 4X4...EXCEPT the ruts! a car wouldn't have cleared them...

I'd be leery about trying it with a car...I guess you could check it out....and just turn around if its a "no go"...there is a ton of fishing spots around there a guy can gain access to with a car...

Oh please be careful driving on those roads around that area, many big ruts, loose rocks and very easy to dent or crack transmission/oil cans when in a car...if it looks dodgy just turn around.

was back in there last summer for a week. We took are trailers back in there and do not recomend that you take a car in. Talked to the fish cop and she was amazed that we got are trailers in. ruts weren't to bad 1/2 to 3/4 of a foot deep but the hills on the way in are some steep with lose rocks on them. bust of luck to you

Thanks all for the tips, I've been one some pretty rough road in the old Tercel.

I guess I was misinformed on the road upgrade. Still, been as far as the cabins on the Blackstone, guess I'll push on, but be ready to turn back!

You won't make it in a tercel, especially if it rains. I was there in the fall and it was craaaaaaaapp. My S10 almost didn't make it. And you can bet they didn't fix the road during the winter......

Even with my Pathfinder the road into the Gap can be an adventure if it rains. There is a section past that big hill that is one long rut that is really, really slippery if it rains. I made the mistake once of trying to drive next to the ruts instead of in them - I almost slide down the embankment as a result. That was a good stress test for my heart!
