I've tried a couple different companies and the ones that Canadian Tire sells seem to be the strongest. I can't recall the companies name but they have a square base. You can also buy the extentions which are also great quality.

i put these in my old boat from bass pro they are pretty comfy and beat the heck out of the old bench seats that ran lengthwise. And they can be removed so if i'm by myself i can pull a couple out to allow more room

Yea they definitely allow more room in your boat!
