Hi I was wondering where one might head to find some great pike fishing around calgary area.

Took forums advice for my 2 boys to phyliss lake and we are up to aprox 160 trout now [99% released). pulled 54 in a 7 hr period one day all under a lb

Found some great wallye fishing at pine coolie [55 ,1.5-2.5 lb walleyes in about 7-8 hrs fishing 100% released].Even managed to pull a double header wallye in, both were aprox 2 lbs each.Although my daughter[first time fishing] even cought a few walleyes we had no luck with the pike there.

Now I am after something bigger, hoping for 5lb -20 lb pike and hopefully a fair amount of them for the day, as my 17 yr old son will only be down for a few days and this will be his prelude to a charter sturgeon run in fraser valley if his marks stay in 80s-90s next spring [grad present ].
Thanks in advance foxonlsd
p.s no boat, needs to be shore fishing.

Best of luck.

Try one of the reservoirs to the south or south east.

Wab!

X2 on Wab quite a few people fish it from shore with reasonable success. If you can get your hands on a boat for the day then you'd be in even better shape :)

I would stick with hardware/flies for wab. All fishing is catch and release, the use of bait greatly increases fish mortality.

Big spoons, cranks, swimbaits and even jigs will work awesome.

Swim baits?Im not familier with those are they a fly type lure?,I have some med size spoons [will get some big ones] a few 2 jointed crank baits 4-6 foot depth which i assume off shore is fine, jigs without a boat guess woundnt be much use there.
Is there no baitfishing there or just a precuation to catch release survivability?

A thank you for the wab heads up,got to visit with my grandaughter and duaghter in edmonton so we all went to wab for the day.Was very warm many people swiming/boating .Fished off the dock for about 4 hrs with no luck, was almost ready to pack it in when this guy fell in my lap.Almost 37 inches long and 13.5 in girth Not sure how much he weighed as iT was catch and release only. Shortly after landing him somthing hit my line so hard it snaped my pole when i went to set the hook :(.All in all a great day.

In the same time it takes to cover 300km. 3hrs from YYC? Take Westjet to Fort Mcmurray. 1hr 15 minutes. Flight to Gypsy Lake 18 minutes. Catch a Pike on every other cast.

not too far from pine coulee is little bow provincial park on travers reservoir. you can shore fish by the spillway where my wife caught this beautiful pike for her first fish ever. she didn't want to hold it though. it wasn't of legal size so it was released with the 3 walleye's that also fell short.
