sauger have black dots on the dorsal(top) fin, they lack the white spot on the bottom of the tail, and have a faint vertical striped pattern on the body...., ussually smaller than walleye in general and for some reason their heads look flatter than a walleyes.
Slimmer with darker markings down thru the tail,, I have yet to hold one side by side with a walleye to really compare,, I could google it and im sure someone will post a pic. Catching a 5lb sauger is unlikely butcha never know out there, ya never know????

Sauger doesn't have the milky eye that the walleye has

I had a walleye the other day I should have snapped a few pics of it since it was about 20'' long, I just didn't want to take the chance that it wasn't a legal fish to keep so I threw it back.
My dad told me that was a small one is that true?

hope this helps, 1st pic is a sauger from the nsr........20 is decent, but personally I think the weight matters more, you can have some skinny's or fatties at that length
also sauger are smaller then walleye

Can you keep sauger because I don't see anything for any streams that talk about them?
