went to the river in the early morning. only got few bites. much slower than the days several weeks ago.... is it normal to slow down at this time of the year? i found the water level is very low and the water becomes very clear. Maybe that's the reason?

Depending what your fishing for, ive had the best luck in the evenings on the NSR. I personally find around dusk to about 1:30am to be prime time for the walleye and sauger.. Friday I fished the river and got 9 fish in seven hours, but once evening came, the count quickly doubled, then I ran out of bait.:sign0161:

I am heading out tonight but the n.s.r and it has been great last week, haven't been out for a few days though. Depends where you are fishing, try to look for new spots, nice back eddies which you can find everywhere, give some new spots away from the crowd a try. Does anyone know how long suckers have been around in the n.s.r?

I fish NSR a lot. I feel that the number of both suckers and goldeyes are fading away day by day, and so is the walleye.... I just not very sure if this is my experience only.. Maybe I need to try different time of a day.. I usually fish in the morning.

really?? i have fished the n.s.r for 7 years, since then this has been my best year to date for not only quality fish but quantity as well, caught over 40 walleye in an hour back in spring along with some HUGE pike as well as a 30 inch sucker this year and some monster gold eyes as well.

I know you are the best experienced NSR fishman in Edmonton, but you probably misunderstood my post. I had very good time fishing in the river as well (20 fish in 2 hours using earthworm, that's my record). I tried to ask if there is a down time in the river and if it could be the time when we "walk" into fall....like now.

In other words, will the fishing become slower with the time going....and the river level dropping......

I totally agree, fall is the best time for quality and quantity.

We and company were down at pembina river yesterday and we managed 4 walleyes, 2 pike in a short period of time as we did an explore kind of day and out of 3 spot checked for new areas, one was fishable. Missed a couple takes as well but overall in 3 hours late in the morning we did ok.

Wonder if Pembina Walleye are as of size like the N.S.R walleye?
