Was wondering what some of you tyers are using for foam when tying hoppers, ants etc.
The foam I was trying got stiff when I glued and layered it.
Did not bend well and you needed alot of thread pressure to hold it.

I use the plain ole' craft store foam. 1.5 - 2 mm. Maybe your glue becomes too rigid when dry. Maybe try white glue.

Any of the closed cell foam that you get from the fly shops or the craft stores works, you just need to use a flexable glue. I usually use dave's flexament. Any fly store will have glue that you can use for laminating foam bodies.

I like to use Zap-a-gap glue for foam. Tried a few glues but keep coming back to it.

When tying multi layer foam bodies it isn't a bad idea to slit the under belly with a razor blade so that the hook sits inside the body. A little flex cement in the slit along with your normal tying will hold it well. I think you will like the result.
