Anyone have experience using circle hooks on tip-ups?

Would like to avoid fish swallowing the baited hook on the tip-up.

Yes u do ... U exclusively use circle hooks and made the mistake of trying a store bought p-rig not long ago and experienced my first bad gut hook... Had to cut the line.... NEVER AGAIN!! Back to tying basically same as a p-rig out if all mono... Weight on bottom circle hook a foot up and another a foot above that one .... Works good for me .... Always get a lip set

I have a couple of models I am trying with the quick strike rigs for pike, some with circle hooks. If I can get out more this winter hope to figure out which works best. So far it has been a little easier on the removal then the trebles.

I use them on tip ups for walleyes and trout when ice fishing and it works fantastic.

I did on a homemade "auto fisherman" on Sprey last year - worked great for me

I have tried them on quick strike rigs, I think I bougth them to small when using big baits I missed more hits. I am going to try bigger ones this year.

I use them any size from about a 12 with velveeta or powerbait for trout to a 4 for stingers on my smelt rigs for pike and walleye. I like them

I've never used them at all but (and I may be wrong here) isn't the idea of a circle hook that you don't need to set the hook? If a pike swallows it on a quick strike rig is it any better than a standard hook in that sense? Just asking cause I don't know. Many times no matter how quickly you get to your tip ups they have it deep.
