I recently returned from a trip to Haida Gwaii.

Spent 6 days fishing for coho on the fly. We stayed in Masset and fished the tidal waters of the Tlell and Sangan rivers. The weather was great. Sun shine and blue sky for travel days, overcast and cool on the days we fished. One day of rain, but nothing crazy. We usually arrived at the river around 6am and fished until the incoming tide made it difficult, somewhere between noon and 2pm.

Here's a few pics.

Did you fly over and rent a car or take the ferry?

The biggest coho I caught taped out at 32" (the male in the pictures). My buddy estimates it around 18lbs. It hammered my fly like a truck and took flight. I've never experienced a fish pull that hard on a fly rod and take me that far into my backing before. It was a rush that's for sure.

We flew into Sandspit from Vancouver and rented a car. For only a week, it made more sense for us than driving. For a 2 week trip, I'd probably drive and catch the ferry.
