Hey yal, was out at Wabamun on the weekend trying out a new to me Merc 9.9
Trolled around in the sun all afternoon, took me an hour to dial everything in.

The fishing was slow to decent we still managed to put 15 fish in the boat, losing a few more and my friend broke off a "mystery?" fish that hammered his lure dove for the bottom and the snapped him off. All I can say is "you should have bought the sufix 832"......lol

All in all a good afternoon fishing and my new motor runs beauty.

Here's some pics of a 12 pound pike that I caught. Finally got to try out my new craddle.......... pretty sweethttp://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh637/jaez270/ParklandCounty-20120922-00704_zpscd24a21d.jpghttp://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh637/jaez270/ParklandCounty-20120922-00702_zps061f49ee.jpghttp://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh637/jaez270/ParklandCounty-20120922-00706_zps87814cca.jpghttp://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh637/jaez270/ParklandCounty-20120922-00707_zps1be2f46a.jpg

nice pics!
the cradle, quick question....... I have read that the fabric nets are not really that good for the fish. I see the cradle is fabric, but is it better then a net due to the shape?? Seems like an excellent way to handle bigger fish out the water and so on......think I can justify spending 100 on a rubber net now that I fish so often, but a cradle seems like a good option too (for bigger fish)

MONGER........... the craddle is rubber coated small holes to keep from tangling in gills and such.
Runs about 60 bucks at TFH.
way better option than a net for the big girls.

That crank runs so deep so fast............. running depth of 12 ft with about 20 feet of line out........... Only downfall is my arm is sore from fighting the hook. So much resistance you fight it all day long. I need the scotty to give it rest from time to time........... and to light my stooogies!!!

Nice Fish - cool crankbait. Cool cradle.

We were out Friday, caught nothing to write home about, did similarly, maybe 20 fish but almost all were down deep in 15-25 FOW. Trolling same type of big deep diving plugs.

I use my heavy action rod when trolling big and deep plugs and wedge it in on an angle into my scotty rod holder and keep my hand there for the quick draw. Putting it in "all the way" makes me miss hook ups. Holding it gives me fisherman's tennis elbow as the vibration (of the plug running) and hard tug make it tough after a few hours.

Friday was a "hit and run" day - Pike were swimming at the bait, hitting it to stun it and then deciding weather or not to come back for the kill. I hooked alot by quickly dropping my rod tip, free spooling after the initial charge and hooking him up on the second take.

Still pretty good day out in the sun.

You were fishing quite a bit deeper than I was.
I was buzzing the weed beds in between 10 and 13 feet of water.
Running my crank at about 7 maybe 8 feet, hard to say exactly but ive got it dialed in pretty close.

The one mystery fish that dove deep and broke you off is a BIG PIKE. Trick is not to let him rest or sit still.

Almost every big pig we caught (over 15-16lbs or so) does the exact same thing without exception it seems. The takes are not terribly violent, but the drag will peel at a nice steady rate as she dives and does what she wants when she wants to.

The coolest feeling in the world is firing up the motor and chasing the girl as you keep pressure on her coaxing her to keep moving (so she doesnt catch her breath while sitting in the weeds for a rest right before an explosive run).

I've had a few members, and myself out there a few times where the results were broken lines, bent open leaders, straightened hooks etc... on a pig.

There are two times on Wab, in particular, where - I WISH I HAD NOT seen the pig !!!!! Losing a really big one, and seeing it at near the boat really sucks.

That was definitely a big one that dove deep and dug in - no mystery to me.

EZM.............. I know that it was a big pike. I refered to it as a mystery fish to keep the nay sayers at bay. It was big yes, how big will be a MYSTERY forever.
