Went out to Travers to break in the boat. At the dock there were people fishing thought weird it's was closed. F&W showed up asked the people how fishing was and left... When out in the boat saw two boats jigging, got home looked at the regs, the lake is closed.. why do you think F&W did nothing to the people fishing on closed waters?

I seen a little bit of poaching goin on yesterday aswell.
No point in calling it in, no ones gonna come anywhere near where it was.

How was the new boat gramps?

Was it F+W for sure? Or some other branch?

For sure, he came and talked to me about my boat. Asked about fishing he said it had been slow. Said the people on the dock had not caught anything yet...

I then would contact the nearest F+W office tomorrow morning first thing and ask them about it. My suspicion is it was a Conservation Officer, not a Fish and Wildlife officer but the office will know if it was one of their guys.

Opps! My mistake. I was thinking it was like Newell, just couldn't keep. That being said why wouldn't Newell be closed like the most of the rest of them during the pike spawn?

Good commentary Kyle. Maybe wait for the facts before you jump to conclusions.

Now were they CO's or Fish and Wildlife Officers? Big difference. That is my original question. Don't go blaming the F+W if they were CO's.

If it was a fish cop he may not have known the lake was closed. May have been from a different area or new to the area. One time I was stopped by a fish cop that did not know what WMU he was in.

Travers Reservoir
May 8 to Mar. 15 – Walleye limit 3 over 50 cm; Pike limit 3 over 63 cm; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 10.
Mar. 16 to May 7 – CLOSED

Strange that both the people fishing and the CO or officer did not know.

Does it matter if it was a CO or F&W they are both have a job to do. And as far as not knowing if the body of water is opened or closed, what are they paid for. Don't get me wrong for the most part they do a pretty good job, just not this time.

gramps it does matter to me if it was a CO or F+W officer. CO is parks, may not know the regs and may not have the ability to enforce them there. Who knows. No F+W officer would do what you said happened. They would have charged/warned the people.
