Tilapia caught in bow!?!

Hey all just got word of this from my wife.....

Apparently A well respected flyfisherman/guide/tv host just posted a pic on Facebook of himself holding a respectable sized tilapia!?!?

Seems they might b a bit of an invasive species ...
It kinda blew my mind at first as I questioned my wife to the 3rd degree till she sent me the picture of it .....crazy !! Starfish in the nsr and tilapia in the bow....

Your thoughts?....

Thats quite the coincidence... happened to read an article today about stocking tilapia in put and take lakes around the UK (if I remember correctly).

hmm the only thing i am aware of is a talapia farm near strathmore i think. talapia are great eatting.

lapia are unable to survive in temperate climates because they require warm water. The pure strain of the blue tilapia, Oreochromis aureus, has the greatest cold tolerance and dies at 45 °F (7 °C) while all other species of tilapia will die at a range of 52 to 62 °F (11 to 17 °C).

there are people raising tilapia in colder climates on an aquaculture basis but...then do need warmer water. They are partnering up with industry like power plants to use warm water discharge. In Alberta there are people raising tilapia in holding tanks in barns and warehouses...overhead is high...I don't think it will succeed but there are crazy investors out there apparently so it is not dieing a quick business death.

Wanna see big tilapia...visit the hippo pond at the Calgary Zoo...I want to try fishing there...but they eat hippo poo and I am not sure they would bite a lure and the taste may not be favorable.

They sell live tilapia at the Asian markets, wouldn't be a far stretch to think someone may have planted them to catch the fish from home here in Canada.

Fluck bgsh's starfish, I'm gonna land me some bull sharks next year! I bet pickeral rigs would just be a slay fest, heck in the parks along the river there is even a ton of free, catchable bait in the form of geese!

Correct, they need warm water. We catch them here, they are called blue kurper, and they will not take a fly until the water temperature is about 25C. By the way, if anyone wants some REAL hippo poop, it is pretty disgusting, but I can send you some......

There have been a couple of Greenland sharks caught through the ice on St. Lawrence tributaries.....that would be quite the surprise.
