Headed over to Tobin Lake this weekend and had an opportunity to get out fishing. Learnt the finesse skill of lindy fishing and pulled out my personal best walleye :)
78 cm and over 10 lbs (scale only went to 10 lol)

My biggest was 65 cm and ate him because he had a heart attack or something (fattest fish I have ever caught) and didn't recover enough to even swim away after being caught.

Cooked him up and was fine. My favourite for walleye is the ~4 lb range but even bigger walleye would taste fine I think.

Too bad you can't keep many of the few you can find out here in Alberta. At least I was able to get back to Sask and catch a few this year.

Meh, there are enough in Pigeon and NSR and even St. Anne by the sounds of it to let a person keep at least one. Sure it would thin their numbers back a little bit more but some of these lakes could use that since they are just over populated and scrawny... Nice thing about Walleye is that they are difficult enough to catch that they will keep on surviving even with some more fishing pressure. Just won't be able to expect 10+ fish a day like you can at some of these places right now.

Lefty-Canuck
10-01-2012, 12:23 PM
To let "A" person keep one yes :)....but you open only 3 lakes like that across the province and you think free-fishing weekend is busy.....would be like that every weekend.

This past weekend I caught under 70cm that were close to 10# so from my experience at Tobin, I would put him pushing 13# at 78cm.
Largest caught this weekend at Vanity was 15.15#. That is what keeps you going back.

Tobin is tough to go by length. 78cm could range 3-4lbs depending on girth. Not a huge fish girth wise, but should definitely be over 10 ! My 14.2 on the weekend was 81cm , but was 6 inches across the back and really deep. Chased her with the electric on 70% and was still losing line !

not necessarily, like teamprotz said "tough to go by length. 78cm could range 3-4lbs depending on girth. Not a huge fish girth wise, but should definitely be over 10"

3-4lbs is quite a difference and Tobin lake averages pretty girthy fish.

but hey Im no walleye expert :P
