View Full Version : Looking at buying a cheap waterproof camera...

Anyone got any preferences on brands or know anything?

Wanna try and keep it under 200 bucks, and I wouldn't be buying it until after the hardwater season.

Gonna be buying a complete new get up before then, new rod, new reel, everything. Me and the dad are going to fish like crazy next year and we want to get some real good pictures for next year.

So if anyone is knowledgeable on a mediocre/satisfactory underwater/proof digital camera let a brother know.

Not looking for no Nikon ****, just a samsung/sony something to get the job done.

Thanks in advance,

Matty.

I have a canon powershot d10. It's a little more than you are looking for, but my mother purchased it 100% with airmiles (i dunno if its still on the website). Takes great photos in and out of the water and has stood up well to abuse.
Check out my "pics of the season" thread. Some other examples:

another over 200, but well worth the money cam is tha olympus tough 8010 (not sure what this years model is called, maybe 810). there are cheaper cameras in the line but the top of the line is the top for good reason.
great results even at 20 feet

I was in the same position as you a few months ago. I tend to research the crap out of stuff before I purchase. If your going to spend 200, may as well save up a little more and invest in a quality unit. Best bang for the buck is the Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS.

It all depends on what your looking for.. what i would. Do is take everyone's pick/opinion compare the specs and see which one works best for your needs:)

Yep, depends entirely on what you're looking for. I've got a Nikon S50 I think...inexpensive, and very simple, but it does the job :)

For a $120 camera I'm happy enough with it. It's taken a fair bit of abuse since I got it as well.

If your waiting for after hardwater just pick up a steal at Boxing Day, sure there will be one or two models you can pickup that will fit in price range that didnt before...

Bought this one (Olympus 820) 2 weeks ago and took it snorkelling in Akumal. Okay little camera if you're not pixel peeping. After looking at the waterproof seals on the competition I think this one is probably the most rugged with some better optics than the cheapies.

Of course I would def go for the TG-1 over this but it's a price thing and I got my 820 on sale.
