Being new to NW Alberta, not knowing anyone and not knowing where to fish I headed for the biggest body of water close to here and tried my luck. The Mighty Peace isn't an easy river to fish I've found. It's huge, lots of water flow and talking with the few guys I've met with boats it gets deep as well. As a shore fisherman for the moment I accepted the challenge and head out to scour the banks for some holes.

I found some post on here mentioning Dunvegan so I started there. Walked upstream for quiet a ways before coming across this nice little hole. Dropped off deep from shore, slow current, I tried my luck and was rewarded.

Nothing impressive, but where there's one there's usually more. So I set up a P-rig with some minnows, bounced it around the hole for an hour and nothing. Tossed the spinner in again for a bit, and a trusty ol' five of diamonds to no avail. The wind had picked up quiet a bit by this time so I decided to call it an evening.

Came across one of the largest birch trees I've ever seen this far north.

Okay, so it's piled up in a log jam. It's still impressive.

So, Yesterday I decide to go out again and make up way down stream on the opposite side of the river. I head out to Dunvegan Gardens, find a spot to park by the river side trail and head down. I wasn't pleased with what I found. The current was quick, shoreline straight, and bottom didn't drop very quickly. I stared walking since I knew there was structure up ahead. I could see a gravel island from the bridge in that direction and wanted to check it out. The scenery, even this time of year was amazing

Just before I got to that little island I had saw I can across a nice little back eddy, good depth for the low water levels too. I've been probing out with the trusty blue fox all the way down with no hits, but when I cast into this little pool, BANG fish on. Didn't last long, line went slack before I even saw what it was. Oh wells, such is fishing. A quick debate on whether to setup here or see what other structure this island holds was quickly over as I kept on down stream. I'd have to come back this way anyways.
Island turned out to be a bust. Shallow channel between shore and the island, and the river turned on the opposite bank. If I could of got out to the island, the tailout would have proved productive I think, but from shore it didn't seem that good. Next viable structure I could see was another fair walk down stream so I headed back to that little eddy.

Nothing to take home for the dinner plate, but all in all, a good trip.

PS. pics were taken on my phone, it's not bad, but the focus isn't the greatest.

It's got to be one of my favorite methods of fishing in slack water.

Try and get down to where the tributaries meet up with the river, and fish the mouths of them. Usually good fishing to be had...

Access to the river around these parts is fairly limited. Many of the tributaries that are still flowing are several hours walking distance from the access points. If you know of some other places where I can get down to the river within reason of walking to these tributaries I'd appreciate the info.

Anywhere between the BC border to around the Fairview area. I've been down to Dunvegan, Pratts Landing, Many Island Park, Cotillean(sp?) and the Clayhurst bridge. As the bridge is in BC i never fished, wouldn't take long to walk into Alberta from there. Nearest trib that should still be flowing from any of those places from what I can see on a map is several hours minimum.

While I don't mind wakling around down in the valley, I'd also like to catch dinner and not have to pack it back for several hours. Know what i'm sayin Vern.
