Saturday on the SSR

another awesome day, good friends, good weather and some great fall fishing! Met up with Dago and his bud Curt, Ogre and Bobloblaw and hit the river this morning. first spot I stopped old mr photo himself hooked his first walleye of the day probably less than 2 minutes after dropping anchor. Lots of action, walleye, sauger, suckers, and Mr Ogre even landed a sturgeon, been so long I forgot what they looked like. tagged it and sent it on its way. managed to get a few decent golden eagle pics finally as well, we saw a lot of them today, 3 or 4 pairs and a few singles. Have to check out Mr Bobloblaws African Sauger, coolest fish of the day. I finished the day with 20 fish total, lost quite a few walleye, including the biggest Ive seen, doesnt pay to get excited and try to horse them in!:angry3:

awesome scenery and great fishing, and a lot of times you have miles of the river to yourself. gotta love it :sHa_shakeshout: best thing is any time you drop a bait in you have a real chance of a 100 pound plus fish too!

found a possible reason for Ogres seeming inability to catch walleye on the river, saw this wicked aura emanating from him while he was trying his hardest today. Just how many onions were on the burger????Just kidding bud, still jealous you got the only sturgeon of the day! :bad_boys_20:

Ive seen suckers twice that size easily, sort of like perch I think, the smaller ones are the most aggressive and easiest to catch. Saturday we were surprised how aggressive some of them were, actually hitting the baits on the retrieve more than once. And on jig/minnows a couple times as well. just adds to the fun! :sHa_shakeshout:

dont really need a whole lot of weigh now Ive been using mbiv boulderostly 2 or 3 oz pyramids. quarter ounce jigs with thin line will do in slack water but wont hit bottomi the current. might head down Sunday too if its not too bad out, Saturday for sure. watch fora big boulder to the right when you pass the island. may hit the forks Sunday if the weather sucks

For this trip we will be shorefishing as I'm not to sure if i want to bring my 90 out there with a prop...

So i guess if a guy is not Sturgeon fishin' then its just cast and retreive eh?

For shore fishing you would be better off at the forks you cant drive to where we were fishing and you can fish off shore at the campground.
