that sucks! Carolside is my favorite ice fishing spot. Usually nice and quiet out there and the fishing has always been great. Hopefully they can salvage some sort of fishery there.

Is this salvage only by hook and line or can a person set nets? Will they eventually let them net it out.

Whats left of the lake has a thin skin of ice on it so I don't think you would be able to salvage any fish right now.

My buddies were there yesterday. looks like the only hope is that there is thick enough ice to walk on before the harvest window at the end of november passes.

With the forcast being what it is, we are going to try this weekend. There will be plenty of fish to catch, it will just be a matter of getting to them.

Depending on what side of the lake you guys are fishing from but there is multiple ways to get to the water there, I imagine there is quite a bit of fish in the old creek bed that Is still flowing through carolside, but with the sudden warm weather were having itll be muddy to get to some of the spots there.

Most of it is frozen over. With the warm weather we have had in thevlast couple days I would not recommend ice fishing it. There is certainly access to the lake, but it is private land and anybody wishing to access it should contact the land owners.

As for fish in the creek bed, we found squat in the creek bed. It was too shallow, we did find some holes up to about five feet deep, but for the most part the creek bed was between a couple inches to two feet deep.

I have pictures of the wreckage, but pictures dont do it justice. The place is an absolute disaster! I have never seen such a large body of water drained down to nothing. I stood in places that used to have twenty five feet of water. It is just sickening that a perfectly good fishery and a vital irrigation reservoir are wasted. I imagine that this will greatly impact the surrounding farmers who rely on carolside for irrigation.

Anyways, if anyone is heading out there use caution and good luck.

The best we saw was 5" thick, but with the warm weather I wouldnt recommend it right now. Most of it was around 3".

Is it true that there is walleye and other fish in there cause only thing I catch in there is northern pike? and I have fished carolside for many years and never caught nothing but pike . It's my local lake for the area but it's sad that it has drained its going to cause a lot of problems for my neighbours in the area since its a source for irrigation . Unless they fix the problem and get the Canal flowing by spring the lake should be filled up by summers end.

Sunny,

We've pulled a few walleye out of Carolside. They are/were definetly in there. Yeah hopefully it gets filled quickly. As much as I am p***ed about the fishing, I am more upset for the local farmers who rely on this reservoir for irrigation. This is a generally dry portion of the province and the irrigation would have really helped.
