Just to make you all jealous. Earliest Ice Fishing I've ever done. October 26th!!!
Disclaimer - I do not encourage any of you to try this. It is too early. Ice thickness was 1.6 inches. Ice strength was good. I was fishing a lake I am very familiar with in a depth of approximately 25-30 inches. I was in my Mustang Integrity HX survival suit and sprawled out on my belly. Could fish about 15 minutes in one hole before I was laying in about 1 inch of water.

Caught about 6-8 fish, took two home that were 14 and 15 inches each. SO FUN!!!, I can't wait for more!!!! Sadly, I believe we will lose our ice this coming week.... :(

Went out today again. Ice conditions haven't really improved any. The temps have been below zero consistently, but not cold enough to really thicken things up. Along with that, we've been getting snow everyday which isn't helping either. Time will tell...

How did you drill the hole?

Sorry guys but I am on my stupid isce fishing rant again....

So laying in 1" of overflow on less than 2" of ice and people saying you had ballz... I would think some shrinkage would be order of the day....

I was first on a familiar lake and drilled test holes and say we had 12" off ice so i drove on and continued drilling test holes... fished and as we were fishing I saw a spot and we walked towards it to find it was a rift from a spring and the was a live flow....this was abou 30' away from where I drove past and could not see it in the snowstorm when I drove on.... Scared the bejeezeus out of me... So I have taken precautions and felt pretty stupid and took it as a warning...

I was swept under ice while crossing a creek as a kid so I may be biased.... but it definitely is not fun trying to breath water.....

And for all you guys taking "precautions" such as picks, life vest, emergency horn... and you are stupid enough to knowingly go out on thin ice.... No point packing the horn because I sure as 'uck amd not coming out to help you... I figure it is Natural selection at work... The best precauition is to stay off of the thin ice!....

I am sure I will rant on this a few more times this year....
