With that easy hookset he wasn't out of the water for more than 30 seconds. Not a drop of blood and he took off within 5 seconds of getting back in the water. One of my most successful C&R's ever, besides losing them before they get out of the water.

something about little minnows, got both my biggest on wee minnows too. 22 1/2 and 25 pounds. makes me wonder what I could catch with a big bait! :shark:

Nice fish! Just a little friendly advice, buy a net! Dragging a fish onto shore and covering it in mud and gravel is not good for Mr. Fish and even tho he was released, his survival is hampered by the way he/she was handled while out of the water. Nice that we still have open water to fish, although cold weather comin again so it might not last too much longer!

Thanks for the advice but I wasn't expecting him. I brought him into a tire track filled with water and then lifted him onto shore. I wouldn't have been able to drag him with that hookset, but he would have gotten muddy there taking him out of the net as well. He only flopped once on shore, that's how he got a bit muddy.

I'll still say this was one of the best C&R I've ever had and I've been fishing for over 45 years. The only things I could have done better was: not to weigh him, used the cradle (in the boat along with the net) and never remove him out of the water at all. I'm 99.99% sure he survived the ordeal unscathed, to be caught again.

By the looks of it you did a FANTASTIC C&R job! People can always comment on handling when they are not there but we can just do are best and be glad that we are releasing fish. Good job DR.HOOK!
