So, I have a co-worker who is treaty indian and he believes that he can legally kill a grizzly in Alberta even tho there is no legal licenced season right now. He says that he would never shoot one, as he has no want to eat it, but says that if he did want to he could. Is this true?

Treaty Indians CAN shoot Grizzlies. I know this for a fact because I mounted a life size for one 2 years ago. And yes the Fish and Wildlife did come and ask me about it.

Treaty individuals hunt woodland caribou with no threat of prosecution, why would a grizzly be any different?

This doesn't bring up any red flags? Sustinence hunting yet getting the animals mounted?

It is unlawful to allow the edible meat of any game or bird to be wasted, destroyed, spoiled or abandoned. Because the hunting rights of Indians extend only to hunting game for food, all meat from a harvested animal or bird must be salvaged and used for food.
Wonder how the Grizz tasted?

I'd give my breeding rights to ensure these people could never take another animal again. One day things will change!

Should be flat out illegal. They should only be allowed to take cow elk of Doe's!

Yes unfortunately one day things likely will change, and these people will likely be the only people that are still allowed to hunt.
