Ok guys here’s the rules for the 2012/2013 Alberta Outdoors online coyote hunt.
As in past years we are looking for prize donations.
The main purpose to the hunt other than the obvious is to encourage hunters to thin the predator populations so we will distribute the prizes randomly through a draw. If you kill a predator, post a picture with a short story and you qualify for the draw.
This year we will also have a prize for the most coyotes CALLED and killed.
Hunt will run from November 6, 2012 to March 31, 2013.
There will also be a separate prize available for under 16 years old, so be sure to mention your age with your pic if you are under 16.
Good luck!

Anyone who would like to donate a prize, please contact me by email or PM.

Here is the pic.....first Coyote for the 2012 contest called in with hand calls. Came in like a trained pig to 130 yards, would have come closer but I am impatient :) Got him at one of my "go to" spots, I call from the burm of a dugout into a large bush surrounded by scrub willows....that spot is gold!

Lol, actually I uploaded that pic from my phone and don't know how to correct the head stand.
I'm attaching the original camera photo. It was a wayyy downward shot as the coyote was at the bottom of a coulee. You can see the hole in the ground. funny it was just a tiny hole in.
The second picture is from today on a friends farm. I had my wifes jeep with a very strict no dead critters in the jeep mandate. So I improvised while driving through the fields. On the drive home I broke the mandate and put him in the jeep on a tarp the wife always keeps for the drive home. there was a little blood, but cleaned up well and the wife was none the wiser. I usually bring a big plastic tote when I use her Jeep, I wasn't actually planning to do any calling so didn't bring it. Go figure, do one set just for giggles and lo and behold he shows up. Anyway coyote #2.

My 22-250 is currently out of comission while I wait for its new scope to show up in the mail, so I decided to take the Marlin 336 out for a walk today.

It was minus 25 when I left the vehicle, so I was hopeul that something would be hungry.
I chased several coyotes around in circles during the morning, but couldn't get within 30-30 range so I hiked up the lake a few km to start fresh in a new area.

I set my decoy out 30 yards in front of me and started calling. After 15 minutes, I looked up to see three coyotes charging in at about 400 yards. Another two coyotes followed them 300 yards further.
The lead coyote ran right up to the decoy and then slammed the brakes on about 10 yards from it - so I dumped him there. The second coyote stopped to look over her shoulder at about 100 yards, so I dumped her too. The third coyote was at about 200 yards and running flat out by the time I could get the crosshairs on it - pulled the trigger and heard the 'whomp' a second later. By this time, I noticed that the second coyote had gotten up and was about 200 yards out and was really burning rubber. I put the cosshairs right on the end of her nose and pulled the trigger. 'Whomp'.

After collecting the three downed dogs, I looked down the lake to see two more heading my way. They were still almost a km out, so I hunkered down and waited. Just like magic, they headed straight to where I was laying. When they hit the 100 yard mark, I dumped the first. Then hammered the second as it ran away.

I spent 2.5 hours skinning the lot of them, then had to carry the buggers and my decoy 4 km back to the vehicle. I am ready for a nap.

Big ol male Yote and a good badger today.

22-250. 40gr vmax. Entrance on the badger was right at the bottom jaw. Bullet stopped inside the body, no fur damage except a torn up bottom jaw. Got up to 200 yds of it, then lip squeaked to stop it for the shot. But instead of stopping it, it turned and badger trotted right towards me. I lip squeaked it in to 50 yds, and shot it as it was still coming in. Funny experience.

The Yote was the same rifle and load, but it was running away and the first shot took its front leg almost off at the shoulder. Shot it again when it stopped in the throat and it was down and out. No damage from the second shot.

Super7Mag, great shot, nice dog, but why the need to show us his insides? We all know what a 300 will do to a yote. I know they are varmints, but why can't we keep this thread clean as we do for big game, birds, etc.? Just my opinion.

Here is my first of the season, also first one with my Savage 11 .243. Got off work a bit early and had time for a hunt yet before dark. I was almost ready to head home when I saw this dog at about 225 yards. Dropped prone with the Harris ready, whistled at it....and gave it a 80gr federal right in the neck. Didn't go anywhere.:)

These 3 were not so lucky, I guess they could not out run the Weatherby .204 Ruger. First one caught him on some bait, second one called him in to 250 yards and the third one was a spot and stalk. I was able to get within 200 yards of him without being noticed and let him have it. All three were one shot kills with no fur damage but the second one was all rubbed out in the back.

Here is #2....

During a lull in the deer hunting action I decided to make a few calls with the 2 hand calls I always have around my neck. This guy hung up on me and barked back....usally a bad sign that the gig is up and they aren't going to play. The wind was right though and he couldn't see me....so we chatted for a while and then I must have said the right thing because he came running in....a quick bark stopped him and the 130gr Game King from the .270win put him down.

Today after watching a weasel in the yard for a few minutes I decided to go for a walk and caught this scruffy little bugger walking through the yard. He was concentrating on some magpies flying around the yard and did not see me. He was at 50 paces which is very close with my .204 so I aimed a little low and laid him out.

Coyote #1 Was shot with a 7mm, hence the gaping hole in his shoulder, the day before yesterday.
Coyote #2 Was shot yesterday with a 22-250, dropped like a sack of potatoes. We did him a favor though his rear right leg was completely broken in half, hanging on by the skin.

Got out yesterday, what a day. Holy smokes am I tired. Ended up hiking exactly 20km from before sunrise until an hour and a half after sunset. It paid off though.

First set I made, I called this young one into 130 yards. Frontal DRT. After he dropped, I saw another one run out at roughly 400 yards. I barked and he stopped. Bang - THUD. Hit him far back and he required a bit of tracking. I caught up to him 2 km later and hit him again at 200 yards.

Got the first two skinned, and headed further up the lake to make my next set. Watched one come in from at least 1.5 km away, and got him into 300 yards. Dropped him there.

Kept sneaking up the lake until I spotted 4 bedded down. Belly crawled to within 200 yards and disturbed their nap. When I pulled the trigger, the coyote I shot at jumped up and took off on the dead run towards me. I though "How the hell did I possibly miss that?!" as he was running past me at 100 yards, I was about to empty my gun at him when all of a sudden he collapsed. Turns out I hit him perfectly.

Got the last two skinned just after legal shooting light, and then I had a 10 km death march to do in the dark. On the way, I came across a pair of racoons playing around on the ice. It was too late to shoot, and they wouldn't leave a patch of thin ice, so I just sat there and enjoyed watching them for a few minutes. The more I watched them, the more glad I was that it was too late to shoot - those buggars are pretty cute.

Called them all in on one stand. Shot the first one at 200. We kept calling and then i shot 2nd one at 175 yards. we decided to keep calling and then i shot the 3rd one at 200. We noticed a 4th coyote just after we got up, i sat back down again and I shot him at 200 yards but he got up and ran off before we could put a second round into him, he had a steady blood trail for a long ways but never found him. Best stand to date :)

Got this guy on wednesday while out deer hunting. Shot him on his way back from feeding on the gutpile of the 180 WT I had been hunting for a week, but lost to another hunter.

7-08 did short work after I called him in with my new predator quest closed reed jackrabbit to 100 yards. Sure like the sound those calls produce, just wish they were a little louder and more freeze proof.

Cause no one asked.

That was rectified a short while ago.

Dang I should have checked this thread out! Good stuff!!

Love the pictures. Five in one place! WOW I would be happy with two in one place! In fact I would be happy with five in one day.

And you guys have no snow!!! I think I may have to move south.
Snows well past my knees in my yard, and getting deeper by the day.

oops! didn't mean double digits the same day (that would be freaky). i just figured that each time you blast one and add to your season score you could be in double digits in a month or so.

Took a friend out this morning to see if we could add a few more pelts to the shipping stack.
Shot this mangy one at 230 yards early this morning. He was standing with 2 other coyotes and just my luck I shoot the mangy one of the three.

Dropped another one at 330 yards a little later but he got back up, ran a little ways, fell down, got back up again, and disappeared out of sight. He went down hard so chances were that he was dead within a hundred yards of where I hit him, but I had no idea where he died because he wasn't bleeding at all and there was no snow to track him. Looked for half an hour with no success. Frustrating.

Beginning of December I shot this guy, while cutting up my deer outside buddies shop. The sheep were getting upset and the dogs were barking and sure enough this guy was cruising along the haybales bugging the ewes and lambs, ran back into the shop grabbed the .270 and shot him at 60 yards in the noggin!

Same here north of Edmonton, got a double the first time out and a single the next day and nothing since. Had a double come out of the bush about 800 yards from me, going the other direction, tired a couple calls but they had no interest. Even had the wind in my favour.... Don't know what the deal is this year

Finally got out for the first time since deer season.Got to first stand and set up. Perfect conditions except the coyote didn't come from the direction he was supposed to. We saw each other at the same time and, well, I let him go this time. I'll get him in a few weeks.
Next stand set up, started calling and out pops a coyote from a small stand of trees.
I put the cross hairs on him and shot. Thought I missed,he was just gone. Don't know how though the rifle is bang on. Oh well first day back out jitters maybe.
Kept calling and 6 feet from where the first one popped out theres another one. For sure I missed. Lined him up and shot. Ranged at 230 yards. This time I know it was a good hit.
Go collect my prize and dammed if there weren't two dead critters lying 6 feet apart. First one fell off a little ledge he was standing on perfect little hole in the chest. Second one died where he stood. It was a good day and my first double on a stand. Couldn't hunt any more as I had to wrap my wife's gifts. Lol.
Merry Christmas to me.

These three where shot a little more recently. My dad and I headed out early saturday morning to be ready for first light. We split up to some spots we like to intercept the coyotes at, I shot one early right after first light.

My dad and I met up again after sitting for about an hour he had shot two I had one. After making one set with little success we split up again. I went to a nice spot overlooking a coulee and just waited for a bit. Sure enough, after about 10 minutes one was cruising up the centre of the coulee towards me it became preoccupied so I gave it a good ol lip squeek. he came cruisin in to about 200 and then again got preoccupied so I let him have it.

I quickly shoved my hands back in my mits as im sure you all know it doesnt take long to get cold fingers. After returning warmth to my fingers i glances up to see a coyotes ears over a hill. I gave another lip squeek and after about 5 minutes he came sneaking in, I could tell this was a big dawg. I let him drop over the hill so i would have a safe backdrop to shoot at and I droped him at about 150.

My dad and i met back up and he had also dropped another one, completing our six dog morning. Three for him three for me. Sadly we had to get back to town for my brothers soccer we had to finish our hunt by 12:30.

Got into a nice spot early yesterday morning. Waited in one of my favorite spots and got a nice 100yrd shot. I then met up with my dad who proceeded to send me to the back of the property quite far from the truck. I sat in a real nice spot and just glassed for about 5 minutes, sure enough one was bedded in the bottom. I had to call for about 25 minutes before he came, when he finally did come he came running. He started swinging around at 100yrds to get my wind so I tipped him over. It was another great morning just not such a nice drag out!

Hey man nice work out there, are you using a variety of calls??? Which ones are you using??? Thanks for taking out some yotes in a devastating fashion.

I have a fair selection of custom calls that I've collected over the past few years, (Open reed, closed reed, bite call's and howlers) so there is no shortage of which one to try :)
Also have a Foxpro Firestorm that I use on occasion.

I called this guy in yesterday morning using a custom “Brad H” buffalo horn tip, open reed. This coyote was in no big hurry to close the distance but although slow coming, he was steady. Dropped it at 102 paces.

Checked out a feedlot this morning and spot a couple coyotes in the field. A 50 yard crouched sneak gets me to a pile of round bales where I can get a shot from, a 158 yard shot with the 204 has the nicest looking coyote of the two laying down.
Next spot, I set up on a fence line that gives me a good view of a large bush patch that runs up against a small lake. Shortly after my first series of distress calls I have a single coming at a fast trot from across the lake which is a bit of a surprise as usually they come from the bush patch. After a minute or two the coyote is almost to my side of the lake but stops abruptly, then turns and is on a dead run for the bush patch…… a few seconds later I hear what spooked the coyote… a couple “piped” snowmobiles were ripping across a field over a mile away.
While walking back to the truck I was thinking “it’s a beautiful sunny morning” and would be a good day to put some miles on my sled….. …….time to go fire up the sled:)

Snowshoed a half mile into the flats of a valley at first light, set up my coyote decoy 80 yards from where I situated myself and then glassed the area over. Finally a few minutes past 9:00 a.m. I see a pair of coyotes working their way through the buck brush a quarter mile away. They disappear behind a knoll and its not long before I see a couple singles in the hills almost a half mile away. One of the singles is slowly working its way my direction and then I see another single in a different spot. Five coyotes in the area, so I pull out a Kerry Carver closed reed call give a short burst of distress cries…. Nothing after a 5 minute wait, so I pull out a Cronk cow horn coyote howler and give a couple lonesome howls. Within in a minute I see the original pair on a fast trot my direction and the lead coyote comes to a stop 25 yards from the decoy. I drop this coyote and then scramble to chamber another shell before giving some yelps with the howler. The second coyote stops at 205 yards just long enough for me to get my double.
Drug the coyotes back to he truck just before the snow hit…..now its snowing like crazy again!

Headed this first one off at the pass. No calling necessary. 150 yard shot and down he went. Pic doesn't show it that well, but he is the lightest coyote I've shot all year by far - big male. Hopefully a hundred dollar dog.

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j396/canishunter22-250/DSC_00172_zps496d1a0f.jpg

After skinning out the first one, I snuck into an area that I like to call at. Just as I sat down, I saw this one leaving the country. He stopped at about 350 yards and I dumped him. He had a broken foot that he'd been walking on for quite a while, it looked pretty painful.

Went out in a blizzard this morning. Snuck into a good-looking spot and started calling. 30 seconds later, through the blinding snow, I see the outline of a coyote at 200 yards. I guess I woke him up from a nap. Wasn't interested in the calls at all, but it didn't matter cause he was in range already anyways so I dumped him. Pretty runty excuse for a coyote, but I'll take it on a day like this.

A little cool this morning but can’t let that stop a guy! Not sure what the temperature was, my thermometer in the Tacoma goes no lower than -30C, so it was at least that. I park at a well site and hike across the field on a ploughed trail to a feed lot. No coyotes on the dead pile but I do spot a coyote bedded on top the bale pile. A few lips gets the coyote standing up and a 85 yard shot has him laying back down.

Much warmer this morning, only -16C!
I snowshoe in almost a half mile to a slough bottom that usually holds a coyote or two and after getting set up I'm debating which call to use. A coyote in the dense willows a quarter mile away decided for me because it started giving some other coyote the gears with challenge howls. Out comes my howler and I challenge howl back......it's not long before I have the coyote coming across the field from the willows. It hits roughly the 150 and I bark to stop him, squeeze the trigger and coyote number one is down. The shot scared a coyote out of the cattails just below me and when I see this coyote again it's a couple hundred yards away.... and stops... coyote number two down.

Did some calling late Friday on the Bow River. First yote came in hard and fast at about 20 seconds. Left the foxpro on and the second yote was there 20 mins later. 2 shots to put it down for good. Another 40 mins and a pair showed up but i only put 1 down. Nosler 32 GR out of the .204 are working well. Rifles hitting a bit high better dial her down a little

Vole squeaks from the Foxpro brought in these two coyotes. I shot the first one at 125 yards and drop it in its tracks. The Foxbang kicks in with pup yelps which stops the second coyote. Swing onto it and fire, I know the coyote is hit hard but it manages to jump into the cattails. The pup yelps are still playing and I’m about to mute the caller when I see a third coyote standing at roughly 200 yards… I get the cross hairs on it and fire, I see the coyote do a quick spin and then tears off into the cattails…..great!!! Now I have two coyotes to find in the cattails. Found the one but after an hour of searching for the third coyote I had to call defeat. Only a few drops of blood to follow which total petered out after a bit.:(

A dog with a good sniffer would have been the ticket! I haven't had a dog for a number of years but the last one I had was a red bone coon hound....that hound had one amazing nose:)

So far got these 2 'yotes. First and only stand of the year. Should probably quit while I am batting a thousand. Wait, no, there are many more out there. Took my old man who has never been out for predators while he was here over Christmas. He thought it was a blast even as a spectator. Had these 2 come in to the new FOXPRO and decoy. I was amazed at how well they worked. Once they locked onto it, it was game over for the one. I got him at about 50 yds and the other at 200ish. Good start but there are more out there that need the .243 treatment.

Got into a spot well before light this morning. Right around sunrise I saw two coyotes trotting across the ice. I hit them with a squeaker call, they came into about 150 where I lost sight of them. After a couple minutes I saw one come back out at about 200 I dropped her there. I never did see the other coyote, one will have to do.

-24 here today with wind chill. Perfect time to go calling!! We were filming today as well!

1st stand hear some howling a couple ridges over. No takers.

2nd stand (same place I killed a hog yote back in December) call is going for maybe 10mins. My partner (cameraman on this stand) dustin, spots 2 out on a hill watching us. Hit the pup distress and he says they are on their way! All of a sudden he says there is a closer one coming hard! This coyote is chasing a rabbit! The rabbit comes right by me at 15 yards the dog veered right under the fence then came up the hill. 40 yard head shot and down he goes! Ask dustin if he got it. Forgot to ouch record! Doooh!!! Lol oh well. On the plus side this stand is a 100%'er!

3rd stand - hear one challenging us from over the hill. Won't come in (so we think) make a stalk over the hill and spook him at 200 yards, drop down and dustin gets on him. Thought he was further and shoots over his back. Miss.

4th stand. (Have called this stand twice before. Killed one, missed one) start of with howls and hear one answer behind us. I was watching out front cause we spooked one on the way in. Hear dustin say the one behind us is coming in after I turned on the pup distress. I turned around with the camera and got him coming in to 30 yards and dustin smokes her!

5th,6th,7th stands are dry lots of deer though!

8th stand- dustin is running the camera. Start off with some male and female howls. Get several response to my right. Go to pup distress, nothing. Go to rabbit distress and dustin sees one about 2 hills over heading to the left. Then I see another go through a low spot a little closer. Get shuffled around to get in postion. I then hear dustin say he is coming right down the gut towards us hard! I jus happen to look to my right and a yote comes over the hill charging the call about 25 yards away! It hits the foxpro with its nose then spooks then stops and starts coming back towards the call! I spin expecting it to run and it just looks at the call and starts for it again! I drop him at 15 yards with a chest shot! Dustin tells me the first one is still coming hard! Pops overt he hill stops at 120 yards. I ask if dustin is on him, he gives me the green hit and I light up a 40gr Berger and drop this female in her tracks! All on HD film!! You can really see how hard those 40gr Bergers hit!!!!

Called 2 more stands but nothing showed.

Here is a group shot. 1 is Dustin's.

Tried a few set ups at this one spot and no matter what call i would use, where i sat or how concealed i thought i was, everytime i seen this coyote he would be running away. Started to wonder if this yote had been called and shot at a few times so i started planning a stalk to get this guy. This am i spotted him out pawing through the snow, i pull the truck over, sneak out and stalk in. around 250 yrds into my stalk i seen him looking my direction so i slowly sat down and began to lip squeek him in. He came in to 200yrds and stopped, so i decided to take him

Got out this afternoon for a couple hours, beautiful day especially for January! I snuck down a coulee to the river bottom and was just getting ready to make a set when 6 coyotes came running out onto the river. I was taken by surprise but they did not seem spooked by me, must just be mating behavior. I started squeeking immediatly, coyotes started coming in from all over. Sadly I had bad positioning and only managed to kill one coyote. I guess that will have to do. Either way hard to beat a beautiful day in the outdoors.

Finally had a chance to get out after work yesterday and managed to squeak this female into about 175 yards when a snowmobile started heading my way and scared her to the West. I gave chase along the back of the bush and was able to only loose 75 yards on her as she was paying attention to the sled headed across the field, I was able to get in the sitting position and line her up in the scope while I gave her a yelp and she came to screeching halt. That's all it took and I let the Weatherby .204 sing a 40 gr. Bullet in her direction and that was all she wrote. Broke through the better part of 250 paces in the snow to retrieve her and haul it back to the shop for a photo op. Great end to a great day.

This morning I decide to walk a ploughed trail that runs along the rim of the valley in hopes of spotting a coyote in the hills below.
I hadn’t gone a quarter mile before seeing a coyote sitting 150 yards below me, just as I am getting the rifle into position it takes off after another coyote and chases it down into a draw. I notice a third coyote sitting on another knoll roughly 170 yards away, swing onto this one and it does me a favour and stands up broadside, …coyote # 1 down.
The shot kicks the other 2 coyotes to the east and they run past the remains of a 4x4 mule deer. A few barks stops the one and a 208 yard shot has coyote # 2 down (on what is now antler hill :) )
The other coyote runs into a thin stand of trees but I can’t get a shot but as luck would have it this coyote slowly starts working its way back. I figure one of the last two coyotes had to be a female otherwise this coyote would be going the other direction. It takes roughly 10 minutes for the coyote to pop back on top of“antler” hill and I drop it 217 yards.
The first one shot was the female and the last two, males.
Walked another half mile and seen a few other coyotes in the field but they could care less about the calls I threw at them.

congratulations snowshoes. i always enjoy your posts and pics. you are probably saving the lives of many deer and small game in your area. do you keep the pelts to sell? it would be quite a pic. of all of them lined up at the end of the season.
just curious if the "antler hill" you refer to is the same one just south of red deer.

Thank you Waterninja for the comments,
I sold 30 pelts to the fur buyer a couple weeks back and have been working at getting a few more for the next time he visits.
As far as Antler hill goes, this spot will not likely get the recognition the one south of Red Deer has :)

Coyotes are a non-game species and don't require a licence to shoot on private land, you can hunt them all year, if you can stalk a coyote into bow range your pretty good haha, I would set up a bait pile or set up close to their travel route because they aren't coming into the calls very much this winter from what I have noticed. Good luck!

Talked to a local farmer a couple days ago and he mention he had just hauled a dead to a treed slough bottom east of his yard site. I have shot coyotes from that spot before so this morning I snowshoe to a fence line that puts me within 200 yards of the slough bottom. Its not long and I see a couple coyotes at the edge of the trees but both are mangy. I hold off to see if there is any decent coyotes and sure enough within 10 minutes, three nice looking coyotes come to the edge of the trees. The three spook one of the mangy coyotes my direction and he passes within 15 yards of me but I resist the temptation to drop it. I hope to shoot a decent coyote first, then go after mangy dogs. I can’t get a shot at any of the decent coyotes so I do some yelps on my howler which sends one to the top of a dirt pile, range the coyote at 176 yards and send a bullet on its way. Hear the impact and see the coyote slide off the opposite side of his perch. Scattered 4 coyotes away from me, got a running shot off at one but didn’t connect.

Calm and foggy this morning, checked a feedlot first thing but nothing there.
Drove to another spot and snowshoe in a quarter mile to a bush patch but the breeze switched half way through my set…. Left there to try one more spot before calling it a morning.
Last set gets coyotes challenge howling after I give a couple howls, its quite foggy at times but I see three coyotes working their way through the bush towards me. They hang up at roughly 250 yards but there’s a ridge between us and I can only see their backs. A few lip squeaks gets them on the move again and as soon a they are in full view I bark to stop them. Pick the best looking one of the three and drop it. Turns out it was a pour quality furred coyote also.
Will get out for a quick stand tomorrow morning, then its off to Banff for a few days.

I snowshoe to a small willow bush on a fence that will give me a good view of some coyote trails. The coyotes typically leave the hog farm at first light and then work their way to the valley. I glass the farm yard which is over a half mile away but see nothing for the longest time. Finally a 8:40 a.m. I spot two coyotes leaving the yard and head my direction, one hangs back but the other is making good time and when it hits roughly the 150 yard mark I bark to stop it and then send a bullet towards my target. The coyote yelps, does a 360 degree spin and tears off only to pile up within in 50 yards.
The other coyote decided to take a different trail after hearing the shot. :p

Not really expecting to see much for coyotes yesterday morning due to high winds and snowing but did see 5 coyotes following a fence line to their bedding grounds.
The wind was right this morning to set up on that same fence line, so a half mile hike in with the snowshoes had me set up at first light. Glassed the area and I see two coyotes bedded down in the middle of a field a half mile away. Shortly another comes out into the same field as the two bedded coyotes and I’m starting to wonder if I picked the right spot. Ten minutes later I see 3 other coyotes ¾ mile away to the southeast….. Six coyotes now and all in the wrong area….
Busy watching these long range coyotes, and get a bit of a surprise by a scruffy coyote coming up the fence line only 80 yards from me. I let it get to 60 yards and drop it. Wait for a half hour but nothing else shows so I walk out to drag the coyote off the field only to see glimpses of another coyote coming up the fence line, I scrabble back to my rifle with coyote in tow. Wait for a few minutes and coyote # 2 shows itself, I let it close the distance and drop it at less than 50 yards. Turns out the second coyote wasn’t much better looking than the first one.

Last morning out for coyotes and on the third set I bring in a nice pair which results in dropping the one at 27 yards.
First stand of the morning I see five coyotes that are almost a mile away but nothing comes into the calls. I drive a few miles and walk into another promising area that results in zero coyote sightings after a half hour of calling.
Decide to try one of my favourite spots a couple miles from home before calling defeat and I set up on the banks of a ravine. Take the e-caller this time and start off with some howls, which gets return howls from the bush. I wait for a bit and then go to distress for a minute and then wait. Its not long and I see a pair on a ridge that is roughly 500 yards away. After a bit of a waiting game, I switch to challenge howls and here they come….. I thought I was going to have the one coyote in my lap the way he was coming but I did manage to bark him to a stop… the 204 drops coyote # 67 at close range!

I worked last night so i had a few hours sleep and crawled out of bed to chase/call some dogs in. Went to my neighbors place and did not even get the caller out of the bag and saw this guy walking on the other side of this tree line. With a few little lip squeaks I managed to coax him to a small opening in the trees before he would have disapeared into the creek, Wind was good and coming crossways. Steadied the .204 with a 40 gr. round and let it fly. Dropped him where he stood, Only had to walk approx. 200 to 220 yards to retreive him. Second picture is of his white tipped tail, most of them have black tips around here.Snow is nice and hard packed and was easy to drag him back. Left that spot and went to another 1/4 section and was glassing the feild and spied this fox from 400 yards away sleeping in the open. It took quite a bit of calling while slowly raising the volume in order to get him to lift his head and come check me out. Once again the wind was in my favour and he came at me circling down wind and I managed to stop him at 150 paces. Two dogs sleeping and it was not even lunch time.:)

In my area they must be sticking close to the den, not as many out during the day. Moving around at night instead.

Haven't seen many coyotes on the farm or at work lately. I think they may be hiding in the brush still as it went right from cold to real windy around here. (Little Smoky)

Just curious what sorts of calls you guys use I finally have lots of places to hunt them but I've never done it Haha.

Ok Guys the contest is over and we are tallying up the results.

A few guys contacted me early on to donate prizes and I've sent private messages to them. If you wanted to donate a prize but haven't heard from me, please let me know.

Thanks
