Whats yours? Mine would be split 50/50 my first bull on the fly, and my first brown on the fly. Both ~20". Everytime I grab my fly rod I feel the adrenaline of catching these

hmm

tough one.

For me it`s really the mysteries that have been unlocked regarding certain spots and trying new techniques more so than the fish themselves . Mentoring fishermen is up there as well.

Best day of fishing: thread called "exciting"
Best Fish: Decline until burbing is done.

Most memorable fish were mostly caught from the yellow canoe by other people.
BGAngler: 25" and 28" Browns
HeavyK: 28" Laker
ReconWilly: 20"+ Rod Snappin Brown and 30" sleeping river burb
Azn_Rice_Man: Honorable mention for giant laker action.

As for the Proudest Catch, no idea, maybe a 19.5" Thompson R. RMWF, or some local slab rockies, maybe a 26"buck rainbow with a spotted kype, or pulling a big fat brown out of 40' of water was cool. Crossing trout species #5 off the list of a fav spot was cool too.

Proudest Catch? Ms. Bee ;)

This year was the first time I have ever fished the ocean. That was really cool.

Unguided, within two hours of fishing I caught my best fish of the season.

57lb Chinook Salmon.

Definately the 6-700lb Giant Bluefin Tuna i got in PEI this summer! 6 years of leader breaks, rough weather, pulled hooks/broken hooks, etc. It finally worked out this year!

Sounds like some awesome fish boys.

For me it would be our first solo Halibut, not a hog by any means but the first we have taken on or own. We have been doing our own Salmon trips for years now but never had the chance to try for Hali. This year we were in a position to try and didn't take long and we hooked this one.

And biggest Salmon and fish for the year, a 28# Chinook.

Late summer evening, small south eastern BC cutthroat stream, hooking up with lots of small to medium fish on #20-22 parchute adams....came upon a very small side channel....spotted a 2' x 2' pool below a weak riffle...thought may be could be, floated the fly just over the gallon of water and bang....3 inch cuttie tried to commit suicide....fishing most of the southern Alberta and BC trout streams we often focus on how big but sometimes it's the hunt...

Bow River lit it up for me. Personal best 26" brown, Personal Best bow river 23" rainbow.

Others would be seeing a 26-27" bull trout in the flesh, catching a couple others in the 20-22" range.

But above all else... did some exploring on a river on the north end of vancouver island. Had a steelhead absolutely explode on a turks turantula. It made short work of my 4 weight and thats the closest i've been to touching a mature steelhead.

Proudest catch of the season, easy. Early June, watching fish come in very shallow to take caddis pupa coming to the surface, spent hours watching for one hatching. Finally spotted one coming up, way slower than I had thought and very silvery. Went home and tied what I saw, next trip to the lake couldn't wait for the caddis hatch to start. When the hatch started I tied on my fly and hammered fish for about 3 hrs in less than 4ft of water, very exciting and rewarding!

WOW this is on my bucket list for sure....Awsome man....Sooooo jelous!!!

My proudest fish....was well ...not caught...It was a massive sturgeon from the Fraser...we never saw it but will live with me forever as the legend!...Unless i get er next year..:)
Just the fact that we went out and in the matter of one week worth of preperation and gearing up and one day on the water we were litterally one mistake away from having a picture of the biggest beast i could dream of out of our own boat with our own gear....the thought of the three of us on the boat dealing with this monster was intimidating to say the least.

This is my biggest accomplishment this Summer :

Fished out at La Jolla on Labor day weekend and the weather was amazing. First morning out caught some mackerel for bait and started trolling them around fly lined. After a couple of hours finally had something pulling drag and got me a little excited. After three unsuccessful trips maybe I'd finally hook a fish! So I put the clicker into gear and the fish starts running. The battle went a few minutes and a nice guy fishing near me helped gaff it to land my first yellowtail and I caught it on the kayak! It wasn't huge but I was stoked. Will include pics and video.

What a monster!!

I tried my luck at halibut fishing this year, managed to get the smallest one I have ever seen (a few lbs maybe)... tossed it back of course. I thought it may have been a flounder, but it was a just a really, really small hali.

Any tips if I get to try my luck again in the future? I don't really know anything about fishing them.

nice. you dont have to kill a fish for a record, just need witnesses and the pertinent info from what I hear. Ive heard of a 130 pounder down this way, what do you figure yours would have gone? hopefully I can break the 60 inch mark next year. One of my best fishing memories this year was spending most of a week down at the forks fishing and camping with one of my sons that I dont get to see very often, and him whupping me with his first sturgeon and a whole bunch more of them. :sHa_shakeshout:

Pretty bold statement, what makes you so sure yours was the biggest in alberta? I happen to know that there was one bigger, and thats all i am going to say. sorry don't mean to burst your bubble.

Catching my longest pike to date with my fly rod behind my house.
Finally catching something well over 20" with a cronimid I tied. This comes with proving bull trout will actually eat cronimids!
Most memorable catch of 2012 would be at the spring creek with BGH.
Tossed a black humpy into the riffle pushing into the bank and watching him sip it up. The best part was we were actually gonna walk right by it without fishig it because it didn't look like it would Hold anything then he pushes well over 5 feet into a beaver run on light line.

For me..

The best.. The 2 X 28-30 inch pike at lac St. Anne caught during the fishing trip with my 3 year old daughter using her newly acquired pink Jigs.

Second best. Almost boating the 20+ pound Pike at Wabamun using the same pink Jig and minnow set up. To bad she spit the hook before and got away we got the net on her. She was right at the boat, I had my hands on her, I couldn't fit my hand around the spine ...... Next year...

Third best. Boating the 35 inch 8 lb pike at Wabamun.

I put a lot of hours, over several days into a promising spot on the North Sask in Edmonton where I thought I might catch a sturgeon. I went thru a lot of bait catching Goldeye and Walleye before I finally got the big pull of a Sturgeon and landed this beauty.

I'm not a very patient fisherman usually, but for some reason I stuck it out and it paid off.
