Hi guys I have hunted for years but never went after a Grizzly before 2006.
Could some you that have harvested some big Alberta Grizzlies post some pics and stories?
I would love to get a Tag for a Grizzly now. Was it like other draws?
How long until you would get a tag? Was it general?
I sure wish they would let us hunt these bears if there is enough of them out there. :)

Thin at one time it was general
I know of one american hunter that took out 2 of our prized grizz on 2 different hunts.

I had a chunk of points when they shut it down but was saving up for a guided hunt in the CHINCHAGA area. Obviously it closed before I could get it done.

I do remember tags in southern Alberta were very rare (End 90's and 2000's). One year had 1 tag in 400 and 402 had 2. I believe it switched back and forth on a year to year basis.

Someday perhaps it will be reopened. But I think its a can of worms no one in our present GOV has the nuts to open.

I got one of the last tags in Alberta. It was the final year it was open and this was one of 6 bears killed that year I think it was. The bear was 23 years old.

Hunt of my Life, no doubt about it. :D Horseback hunt on the Panther river in a heavy snow storm. Wife spotted the bear and I tracked him into thick woods. After that it was close and personal, talking less than a hundred feet here. Ended up shooting him in the head, so no skull measurement or trophy club buckle for me. After we skinned the bear, had to pack him out , draped over my shoulders, since my horse wasn't having any part of that. According to F&W, the bear was 9.

I love looking at grizzly pics and hearing the stories. I was drawn south of GP the last year they had the draw but didn't manage to get one. Spent a couple weeks hunting and seen lots of sign and one bear but no luck. Packed up right after that and moved to B.C. and managed to get a couple out there and shot some with other guys. I hope they bring the draw back here. Lord knows the population could handle a draw in many areas. I seen 12 this year, more than I seen blackies. The way they are counting them is a joke. Putting out a bait and then counting them off the hair recovered on a fence. How many bears come to a bait after a big boar claims it? Not many, thats for sure. O well, love the pics.

My trusty Sako in 7mm Rem. Had another draw for Swan Hills in 2004, but the bears won that round.
