I need to upgrade my old hunting boots. This last pair of Danner Pathfinders lasted almost 8 seasons. I want warmest, lightest, toughest, waterproofest, boot out there.

Thanks for your help guys, happy hunting!

My favorite are the Meindl Canada Pro's, there expensive but well worth it for the Vibram Sole. Iv'e tried many boots and will never have anything else. I have zero fatique and zero blisters after hunting and hiking 10+ km's a day. As with any boot that is not rubber they require a waxing (meindl Sport wax, free with boots at AJ Brooks) to keep them waterproof and looking new.

The one that fits. Pick your technology but make sure it is comfortable. Also try them on in the evening when your feet are more swollen.

I'm Loving my Irish setter elk trackers (might be elk hunter, can't remember). Been wearing em for 2 seasons and haven't had wet feet yet. Goretex is the best out there. They are super light and super comfy! And if you go to redwing shoes they are about $90 cheaper than WSS or Cabelas.
Also you can get em in different thinsulates. I got em in 600g and they're good to about -10.
Love em!

Anyone know where you can pick up boot wax in calgary. WSS and the usual sportcheks are all sold out.

no such thing, especially in the diverse landscape of alberta. there just isn't one boot that good from August 25th - November 30th for the 400 WMU to the 100 WMUs .... and everything in between.

There's a few shoe specialty shops where they still have old fashioned repairs available! I know of one in Crowfoot Village basically due east across the street from the Burger King, but can't recall it's name.

If your mountain hunting I like my Hanwags, first pair of boots I have ever owned that I never got sore feet from and never got blisters from. A little spendy but worth the money. You just need to find something that works for you. My experience though has been you get what you pay for when it comes to boots.

X2 on the Handwags! Yes, they are pricey but cheap boots that don't fit right will not allow you to give your best effort!

I would think that MEC would carry it, although I understand why some people are reluctant to shop there.

Another one for Hanwags here. I have been using the Alaskan GTX for several years as a mountain boot. I also have a pair of the Hanwag Altai, a little lighter boot with fabric upper that are more of a medium hiker. Very good quality boots and they can be resoled.

I agree....thats how I am almost able to keep up with my Wife in the number of shoes she has....just hard to find a place to store all my boots. If I go on a hunting trip I take no less than 3 pairs of boots at any given time. Unless I have to backpack somewhere.

Yes you can>

I have worn out a few pair of these over the years. I started wearing my first pair in the early 70's. tough and comfortable. I've been out calling coyotes yesterday with two friends. Both had cold feet after 20 minutes. I was golden all day with a very light sock.

Horseback or hiking. Bird hunting or big game, I won't use any thing else.

Thanks for the help guys! I should have been more clear I guess for some, I hunt mostly the foothill and forestry zones. October and November hunting primarily but some late September outings. Lots of uphill hiking, I'm a bit of a tank size wise and by the time I venture out for prairies there's usually snow. I need good ankle support, arch support and must be waterproof.

I'm going to try the Hanwags and some new Setters. Thanks again!

What is a good boot for winter hunting. I have a pair good to -100 but want some that are light. Walking in knee deep snow and snowshoeing in mid thigh snow is extremely tiring.

Being that you had good luck with your Danner's I would suggest the Ft. Lewis. I have been wearing mine for over 12 years now. High boot, Gore-Tex and thinsulate. Look after them and you will be happy.

For sept/oct hunting I like the under armour speed freaks. Very light, comfortable, and water proof. It's also nice they don't break the bank to bad (around 150$).

Another Hanwag supporter here. I bought mine at Track n Trail in Edmonton and added Superfeet insoles. Wore out several pairs of Danners before these and the Hanwags are much more comfortable.

I haven't tried them in the field yet, but I just bought a pair of Columbia bugaboots with the omni heat technology. Completely waterproof as tested in my bathtub and are extremely comfy and light weight. Comes with 600 grams insulation. Reviews have been very good for the most part.

^^My thoughts exactly! Except I'm only on my first season. I bought mine at Redwing too and I think they were just over $200. I know a couple of guys I used to backpack with and they raved about their Hanwags but they are a lot more expensive.
