Headed out to a local trout lake, arrived at about 6am, fished until noon, ice thickness is 3-4 inches, i fell through the ice and the water was cold but not as cold as i thought it would have been, just fell up to my waist, released a bunch then caught my limit, it was -21 out there this mourning Brrrrr.

Tons of flood water as well, i suggest boots up to your knees.

Thanks, ya falling through the ice is not fun. hopefully this cold weather over the next little bit thickens the ice up.

I didn't realize that was you out there...I showed up and then realized that I forgot my bait, so I ran into Spruce and grabbed a shrimp ring and then tried a different spot and did okay. Did it get busy while you were out there at all?

Nice looking fish! Please leave a few in there until after hunting season.....lol.

Why so much flood water? Could it be that the ice is dipping down enough just from your own weight and that of your kit? Either way, I won't be fishing for a week or two yet.

The weight of the snow was causing the flooding.

It seems now like *most* of the flooding happening on this lake has finally finished and what has flooded has mostly frozen down, though there are still some slushy spots, and spots with a crust of ice over the slush.

Most of the flooding has stopped, but the ice is inconsistent and of poor quality.

The "saving grace" is you only need 3 ft of water for brookies this time of year. I wouldn't venture out in water much deeper than that until the ice is better.

I love the colors a good photo-shop color enhancement can do ........... the last picture is a buety.
