Well i went up to sask muzzleloader zone thursday morning and beat the weather. I arrived in town at 330pm and met up with my contact who immediately took me out and put me in the blind for the evening hunt. I had 2 hrs to hunt. the first 2 deers to show up were a couple of does and then a spiker buck came in and fed for a while. eventually all 3 deers fed off. Just before last light i spotted a large deer on the edge of the brush line. the deer had a big body and i could tell it had a solid rack. it dissapeared into the brush heading towards my blind. at last shooting light 3 does hopped the fence 80 yards from my blind and went to the bait. 2 minutes later the large body deer appeared by the fence. i knew it was a buck, just not sure how big. the buck took his time but finally jumped the fence. i took a quick look, decided this was the deer for me, and took the shot. the deer went about 150 yards into the bush. i followed him by his tracks. there was no blood. just before giving up my friend and i found him dead. the shot was a little far back and a touch high but still a fatal shot. i'm very happy with this deer. my friend said that he is a very old buck. he had lots of trail cam pics of him and said he was a great deer to take off the property. the deer is a 5x5 with good height, lots of mass, and chocolate horns. i can't wait till next year.
