8" inchs is more than enough and all you have to do is drill two maybe three if you want it to be even bigger.

auger size is some what dependent on how you fish, big pike, burbs, lakers go with a 10 .general chasing what bites, an 8 will suit you fine. larger augers work well for visual fishing in shallow water less than 15". smaller augers are more portable in most situations. hope that's what you were after.

and you could always get an 8 and just drill holes side by side or even make a triangle.. its what i do when i am targeting large pike or burbs.

For now ice is thin enough i just chop a hole with a my hatchet... but even through 4 inches its a bit of work.

Honestly check out the husquavarna ones pricy but worth it cuts holes vary fast and the ten inch is very light

Auger size is not what I had in mind. It was the others, to whom size mattered, I believe it's a syndrome or something like that, the name escapes me.
Regardless, it was the makes and models and improvements made to them that I was enquiring about. Lets see what info I can get now..Thx..,:character0175:

now the games begin, older jiffy or eskimos are the way to go. the new stuff is lighter but are so because of plastic parts. in our severe climate they can be an issue. if I had to buy a new auger I think the four stroke or propane jiffy would get the nod. my 05¢.
