cant believe I had the boat out 6 days ago, river is frozen up solid now :angry3: but to help keep the addiction going I checked out a couple places yesterday. Went back to one today for a couple hours, didnt get any fish but it was a beautiful day on the ice, sunny, warm and zero wind. I played it safe, roped myself off to a couple anchors near shore and wore my floater coat, but the ice was a decent 3 to 4 inches, and nice and clear. Hope it holds now, Id like to get out on my favourite ice lake but not til it has just a bit more ice. The water was going up and down pretty good as I walked around the holes. Cut the holes with a hatchet which is why the ice looks white.
overkill maybe but I like my swimming pools heated.

I think I'll wait for at least 6". I've only been on ice a handful of ties and am not experienced enough to recognize dangerous ice conditions.

good to see you playing safe.

Takes the danger, but not the fun out of it.

For the older guys, or those with a bad ticker, one of my great grandfathers died of a heart attack when he went through the ice.

The shock alone can do you in.

Something to keep in mind.

Wayne, How deep of water was that.

When I fish on thin ice I like to know if I will be standing or swimming if I go in.
