i read your message a week after you posted it.... last week I was there and we were fishing open water at the bridge... drove to the boat launch and it was open.
That being said, there was ice north of the bridge ( although iw ould not walk on it) and a band of ice in the narrows and around the bay just to the south of the bridge.

With all that in mind.. 7 days ago Ghost res was openwater at the boat launch.. it is not now.

Ok, I usually do not chime in on ice thickness but you need to be aware of the temps down here is Southern Alberta....It has been cold lately but not enough to freeze up the lakes totally. Yes, we had a couple of days of -15ish but that might give you a couple of inches and then some temps in the -2 during the day and -8 during the nights. These temps are still not able to produce the ice thickness that some of you are looking for. Personally, because I have been ice fishing for many, many years, I know when it is time to venture on the ice safely without even taking a drive out there. Unless I am equipment suited like Wayne, with the proper equipment on such as the knowledge he has, ice picks, ropes and such, please be patient and understand the weather patterns and what kind of cold snap it takes to make it safe to venture on the ice.

I am so stoked for getting on the ice, but watch the trends in the weather...
Take care out there...

If you're new to this lake, just a quick note about early PCR ice. I have fished on 6+" of ice in one spot, walked within a 30 to 40' radius of that point and found as thin as 2" all in the same area. I've found this off the banks by the bridge, which should be obvious, but also by the launch. There can be half a foot of ice at north end and waves south of the bridge. It may look good, but be cautious.

Is this at pine coulee and if so this year or last year?

Stay away from the ice around the bridge because salt that is put down on the road above is eventually thrown on the ice below by snow-plows. It melts the ice and creates deceptively thin spots under it.

Looks like Pine coulee, looks like this year due to the ice thickness.

Now I have to ask, how thick was the ice there?

Stopped by for today and you could definitely take a boat out lol. However clear lake looked nicely frozen over. Can anyone offer some advice as to where to try on clear lake?

Right near the boat launch at the south end. You will see this rock wall/path thing leading out on the north side of the launch, go on the north side of that rock path, we were there last year and saw a big one in literally 2-3' of water. We only caught 1 in all of our trips but I think we were to deep most times. 10-15' of water. I will be there soon enough ad will be right on the other side of that rock wall. Use smelts on tip ups.
