Jealousy got the best of me seeing that everyone with a screw loose is getting out on the ice early this year. So of course, I just had to get out this weekend, even if it was just for a drive to check ice conditions. I figured that Butcher should have enough ice, was there last year but it was 2 weeks later in the season. Got to the lake to find it froze over, walked out carefully just a few feet off the shore and 3 turns of the hand auger and I was through, 3" of solid ice with 1" of cloudy ice on top. Dropped a line down and wham, fish on in less than 30 seconds. I was just checking depth with a small jig. Drilled one more hole and set up shop, fish after fish for a solid 2 hours, lost count and they ranged anywhere from 6-14", beautiful colors. Took 3 home and they were very tasty.

Stopped by Payne and ice looked very sketchy. I didn't walk out but someone had chopped a hole by the boat launch, from the looks of the ice chunks there was maybe 1-2" of ice.

Nice!

I was thinking about heading up there to check that place out and see how the ice is. Haven't had the chance yet but will probably head up there in the near future.

Isn't it great that these delicious fish can be found so shallow this time of year. Makes the risk of falling in to your waist worth it.

With the weather that they are calling for it may be a waste of time to head up there.

+ temps all week with quite a bit of wind will probably eat the little bit of ice up pretty quick.

I want to head up there to but I will probably be out hunting down a deer.

Just came home from the area, it's rainy, snowy and very windy, temperature was around 5C by the truck thermometer.

I know... I'm getting sick of this weather, bring on the cold :sHa_shakeshout:

Good luck on the deer, let me know how it goes.
