Looking to pull the trigger on a quality grinder. What would you recommend?

Cheers,

I bought a new moulinex about 10 years ago and it still works great. I'm nor sure how the newer ones are though.

Just bought a 1hp from Cabelas 2 days ago. Did my first pepperoni with it yesterday. Ground up 15 pounds of goose and it would grind as fast as I could feed it. I was very impressed. And the foot pedal is awesome when it comes to stuffing. They are on sale right now for 500

Peavy Mart carries a really good grinder (1HP), and they put it on sale for $400 every year. We've ground in excess of 30 deer, a beef cow, a couple lopers, and a couple elk through ours and no issues yet (been a few years). Having the best meat grinder in the group of buddies means lots of company this time of year. Its fast. Only thing i don't like is the plastic switch, which has been fine but worries me when i'm moving it around.

I will also put a plug in for the Cabela's grinders. We picked up a 1 3/4 HP one this year after the small "el cheapo" one we had was making us go deaf. With the Cabela's grinder we couldn't feed it meat fast enough. When doing grinds for burger we do it twice, 1st time on coarse and the other grind on fine. Usually the fine grinds take a very long time to complete......well not with this beast. Parts incl. plates, knives, etc are readily available in store as well.

I have an Omcan 3/4 hp grinder I bought before cabellas came to town and made meat grinders economical to buy. I paid 600 for it on sale. But his has been a good machine and many deer / pigs have gone though it without issue. It's not unusual for us to put 300lbs of meat through it in one shot .

I bought the $189 model from Cabelas here in Edmonton and it worked great. It comes with 3 grinding size plates and tubes if you want to do your own sausage. FS

I'm running a 1/2hp from BassPro, I think it was around $289? on sale. Anyway I can't keep up to it, so I can only imagine what a 1, or 1 1/2hp would do.

I have a Samona grinder bought on sale at Peavey about 5 years ago.Sounds like the one above.
After one year it started a slow oil leak on the face that is somewhat annoying over time. When it gets annoying enough I will pull it and fashion a new gasket.
Otherwise this grinder has been fantastic.
Mostly deer and moose thru it, but I grind a lot of turkeys as well.

I bought the 3/4hp one from Halford. The reason I chose this one was the design of the grind tube (where the auger turns in). Most have just parallel groves on the inside. I have found that if this grooves get filled in with pork fat, the meat will just sit there and need to be cleaned...a hassle. This model had a corkscrew tube to match the auger. The result has been that after grinding, there is nothing left over in the tube.

I grind everything only once......with this one, no need for two runs.
But 3/4hp can be stalled with too much frozen solid stuff at once.

I have this grinder. I have only used it once, it ground up 8lbs of semi frozen moose. Took no time at all. I only have time to do a batch of sausage every so often and this grinder will do the trick I'm sure. Guess it will just be a matter of time to see how long it lasts

My girlfriend found a new Cuisinart one for $40 with the metal auger (not the plastic one)... So far it has done 35 pounds of deer for us with no issues. A friend has a similar model and he has done over 1,500 pounds of meat and had no issues! Not the biggest, and I definately wouldn't try frozen in it, but we weren't in any hurry to get it done...
