I got my first coyote with shotgun in 248 last weekend and i went back again today. I had one come into 52 yards straight on and thought it was close enough so i shot and he bolted and all i found was two small tuffs of hair and no blood. I figured shooting 3" OO through a 12 ga. full choke i would be fine at that distance, am i wrong or was it saved by a miracle.

Have you ever patterned it at that distance or checked where the pattern center is in relation to your aim point?

BTW I would use #4 buck and would use a choke designed for dead coyote loads.

x3 00buck doesnt work very well in most full chokes cause pretty eratic patterns in my experience I find #4buck or even tshot works best and x2 on the proper choke good job on your first and good luck

thats a nice yote. congrats. i have never been so frustrated as i was this year shooting at 1 yote and 2 nice bucks in 248 with my smooth bore 12 ga. using slugs. next year i will have a rifled barrel shotgun.
i also plan on on learning proper archery as i have a very sweet spot in 248.
