Any Idea on what the Average pelt is bringing in this year? I'm starting to think that some guys are getting decent money this winter for them.Alot of people are being tight lipped is my impression.

The best prices come from auction (NAFA). If they are real good quality I think we will see somewhere around $60 -70.00 average, give or take.
Apparently the auction sold off last years inventory so prices may be up a bit this year . Hard to tell until after the first action is held.

I heard rumours of $100 for the best pelts.Thats good for the trapping guys if thats the case....I need to start shooting differnt bullets,im blowing them apart with the ballistic tips.

$100.00 or better is quite possible for a good Alberta Coyote. The first NAFA auction will be in Feb (i think). That will tell us.

Running a 55 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tip out of a 240 Wby Mag...Bullet size is ok,its just the Ballistic tips leave such big holes in the hide.

I've had the same experience with B -tips. Those 55's must be sizzlin out of that .240 WBY. I get 3800+ out of them with my .243 Win.

I found my .20 Tactical /Berger 35 to be the most fur friendly .. same with204 Ruger.

the new 17hornet is deadly on the dogs out to 300 yards! it drops them where they stand, just gotta carry a wind meter, pin hole going in, no exit hole yet theat ive found.

Yup 204 ruger,thats a great little cartridge.ive been thinking about getting one of them.I know cooper firearms is going to start chambering varmit cartridges in Repeater Rifles,M21-R.

The .17 Hornet will be joining my .20 very soon. I agree, it is a great piece for Coyotes. Most shots are well under 300 yds anyway ... more like 100 or less from a stand. A 12 ga. is also nice to have along.

That could be but I recall hearing the same thing last year. I think more depends on the Euopean fur market than the quantity available in inventory. Surprisingly NAFA sold right out last year.

If inventories get exceptionally high we may see much better prices for high quality furs and dick for below.

there are a lot of variables to sending them to auction... the fees and commisions you pay only seem like a small amount if you are getting average price or better, there is a flat commission %, tumbling fee and i believe there is a government royalty that you pay on every pelt. so if you are sending in substandard pelts (unprime, off colour, large holes or small) they will eat away your profits quickly.

a lot has to do with the colour or the pelts, the darker they are the less they will bring, even if your prep is perfect, i sold mine last year for 50 dollars a piece on average to a fur buyer. my prep could have been better (first year though) had 1 semi-heavy (worth about half the price of a heavy) and the colours were all dark. if i had perfect prep and pale colour ( which is what i am told is the prefered colour) i may have gotten average prices from auction or better. after commissions and fees i would have been looking around 60-65 dollars had i gotten average.


so maybe i took a little less than what an auction would have brought but i also had cash in hand at the end of the day.

i am hoping the price goes up this year, like everyone else, and by the looks of things they will. heres to hoping

there is the picture of the 6 i sold last year. buyer had a few minor critiques for my prep as far that the length of the front legs and how much to trim out of the belly/groin area, but said the fleshing was bang on. im not an expert but if you can make yours look like these or better, you're laughin.

until the auction, no one knows. the Chinese economy has slowed down. and around here, everybody is out after coyotes. select prairie furs(coyote) may stay strong like last year. but anything less than perfect is going to be way down, way down. do to over supply. happens every time there's a bump in the market.

im shooting 55 gr ballistic tips out of my 223. badgers and coyotes have shown a pinhole in with no exit. foxes are too frail to stop them though, and the exit hole was enormous. i have no idea what speed they are zipping at....charts say around 3100 fps, but i dont have a chrony. hide damage was a factor in my choice of 223 over 22-250. that and i plan on shooting till the barrel melts right off, and a 223 will last a little longer.

i have shot a lot of coyotes with a 22-250 40grn ballistic tip not much fur damage unless you hit them in the shoulders if you punch them behind the shoulder no problem

Did much better price wise on hides sent to FHA than NAFA , won't go back there again . Amax bullets @ 3600 fps out of my 22-250 leaves no exit holes so far .. at least not on the half dozen so far .

Sold a big one that I snared for $30 whole the other day. Hope to get a bunch more now that I've got my trapping license this year. But I'm not seeing near as many yotes this year as I did last year and the year before.

I shot 52gr. amax outta my 250 last year and they worked well. I'm trying 40gr. Vmax at 4200fps this year and I'm liking them more so far. All 14 of the year so far have been zero damage. Fox it went thru, but didn't leave a huge hole out. Quarter size.
