Keeping jig heads in good shape?

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone had a tip on how to keep your jig heads in good shape? I find that mine get chipped up and dirty looking even without use. I have them stored in their own compartments in my box, sorted by color and size. Hate having to repaint or replace them when they haven't been used.

Seems the more beat up and less paint the more i catch,so i do nothing with mine. Ive got a few with no paint on just exposed metal which seem more often than not to catch the most. Just sayin. Maybe they get a fishy smell after a few Pike bite on em????????
