Wind, snow and -30 temps be dammed my youngest boy and I finally hiked a cow elk into the ground this morning. Awesome footage, what a hunt. It isn't always about the size of the horns. We've put enough miles in on the snowshoes to make chasing sheep in the mountains a giggle! What a great old fashioned hunt and best of all with family!

Congrats on the elk.

Wish I had a tag for late season elk in 356, they just stood off the road. Everyday.

Thanks everyone! She is skinned and hanging in the garage, I guess well cut on Christmas day between present opening and turkey. Haha.
The hat is a family tradition for outdoor activities in December. When late cow elk seasons started a few years ago it seemed a natural fit. I do get some looks though. It is dang warm and that is all that counts.
Jake used my custom RMR in 260 AI shooting a 139 Interbond. Yesterday we couldn't get closer than 650 yards and today we had to yell at them so we didn't get run over! Jake shot maybe 50 or 60 yards, I'm not sure as just about everything including my eyes were froze at that point.
Merry Christmas!

That IS a chilly hunt! Nice work.

3 years ago I helped a buddy find his cow, it was minus 30 ish, he blew a 350 yard shot and haunched her... That was the coldest chase track job I've ever been on.

I tip my frozen hat to you boys!

CONGRATS!! :sHa_shakeshout:

Last cow Elk I took was a couple years back in December at -33.

Dress for it and its ok. Drug out of field, loaded into truck, went couple miles tot he farm, used the tractor and had it dressed out, skinned and quartered in about 1/2 hour...you work fast when its cold.......lol

Good job on the cow Rich, between Sandi's ram and the cow you have some of the finest table fare on four legs!

Nice hunt!!

Heading out to 521 next week. Hope we can get my boy under a 100 for his first cow elk. The 7-08 with 140 ttsx will get the job done at that range.

Old fashioned? With a RMR and a Ziess? Not a Hawken?

Just ribbin', Rich. Congrats to you and the boy. I'm sure the work will make it taste that much better!

Nice job, nothing like very cold weather and snow to make things fun. How about a pic of that elk in the back of that new argo on tracks for us argo fans. Congrats on a nice cow elk.
