We got drawn for moose or elk tag. Area we are in has more moose than elk. I'm saying whatever come out first goes down. I've had elk and really liked it.Question is : What tastes better? I know opinions may vary but just trying to get a few different views. Thanks

Elk has great flavor but moose is much milder which appeals more to people who aren't use to wild game. For that reason, moose gets my vote.

Elk for my family.
Moose seems to have coarser muscle fibers.

So like Lefty I would prefer Elk steaks.

I prefer elk but the moose I got this year is awesome only because it tastes different in the prarie part of the province then it does when I've got them in the mountainess parts. Obviously the feed is better in zone I got it this year ,with grain ,pea fields, canola and alfalfa around he ate like a king

Cow elk is #1 in my wild game world. A ****y, rutted up bull elk is at the bottom of the list. Moose is great, but it's not a cow elk.

For us it depends. For cuts we go with elk and for processed we go to the moose. To each their own.

I agree 100% There is nothing like cow elk. Delicious! Although calf moose is pretty amazing too.

Are you saying you got drawn for one tag that is good for a Elk or a Moose?

Yes sir, there are actually 4 of us going on two tags. We can shoot either animal. Thanks for all the replies, we will probably go for one of each. Hopefully i can post some pictures by 1st week of january.

I am still not sure I have it clear. In Manitoba can you "party hunt" on these tags? And do you actually have a permit to shoot one moose and another permit for one moose? Or do you have two permits that are good for a moose or elk which ever you decide?

He's saying 4 guys are going out and between them they have 2 tags.
If you really want to know the regs in Manitoba, why wouldn't you look them up on-line yourself instead of taking the op's interpretation?

To the op- good luck on your hunt... They're both excellent table fare and you'll be pleased with either.

No need to read further after the above post. They can all be good, but cow/calf elk is the tops. The same can be said for rutted up bull moose as the bull elk. Outside of the rut, I've had bull elk nearly as good as cow.

Good luck on your hunt, and have fun.

The wife prefers elk slightly over moose. I like them both about the same.
