This year I was very fortunate to harvest a great mule deer and whitetail, both my best. I am having them added to the trophy room but would liek to have them on a pedestal together, especially sinc ethey were harvested less than a mile from each other.

I have searched online for ideas, but I'm wondering if anyone can add some pics as to what they have done. Especially when it comes to mixed species.

Also does anyone have ideas for a base or a maker, as the ones through the taxidermist are expensive. I may end up build it myself but looking at other ideas first.

Thank you.

I built my own pedistal for my wife's buck. It was really easy. Built it out of pine and plywood and covered it with barn board. On top I used foam, fake snow and potting soil. I also added the sheds I had from him.

Thats what I was thinking with the pedistal base, then if he where to have like an old weathered fence post on it up the back to hang mounts , one deer lower than the other on it so they are off set, maybe one looking left and one looking right! That way they are in the same mount.

Nice mounts,

I like the fence post idea and have thought about it before. Would you bring up one post and have one deer low left and one high right? or vice versa.

I want something unique but I don't want to be dissappointed with my decision either.\

Thanks guys, keep the ideas coming.

Check out mountain view taxidermys web site. Not sure if they have pics of the pedestal with whitetail an mule but I seen one in their showroom that looked really good.

Not sure what I'm going to do with the caribou, it won't fit on any of my walls.
Five feet of horn doesn't leave much room for a shoulder mount on a 8' ceiling.
I would like a pedistal as well but it would be so close to the ground.

Ya I know what ya mean.....have the same problem with my elk....a ton of horn makes them hard to fit!! My elk is now going to make its way to the cabin up north in SK!

A really low pedestal could still look pretty cool. Def would have to keep it off the wall when the walls are short like that.

Wildebeasts look great Rich. From what I ave seen his work looks very good. I have thought about using him on a couple things but I have been happy with my guy.

I found a couple pics that don't look too bad but I propbably got a couple months before I need to get the information to my taxi.

Thanks guys, this is great.

Here is one of my rams. I did it on a small table pedestsal. I just needa coffee table now and I threw a set of whitetail antlers on there while I was vacuming and didn't take them off but you get the idea. If you have a nice coffee table a nice table double pedestal would look nice. Rich , nice mounts on those Wilderbeest!

Deercrazy , its hard to mount two of them doggy style at the same time! :bad_boys_20:

BigBuck,

Ihave searched all voer online, but have not seen that mount. That will be what I have done. Very nice mount and will just have to sort out which pose I will use for each deer as the mulie has some stickers to show off and the whitetail is very typical.

Thanks again guys for all the help.

Bases like this are not that much money. The bases sold in the taxidermy catalogues are pretty pricey. This base for example was like $290 US and if you did both deer like I did the wildebeest for Rich, you would keep your costs down. Your taxidermist will have to dismantle the forms and build the receiver and pin into the forms. From what I have found, your better off getting a pro to build your base unless your crafty with a hammer and nail. I am heading to the U.S near my cabinet maker if you want and I also have a base exactly like shown in stock if you want to buy it.The base for this mule deer was an 18" across base and the wildebeest base was 24" just to put it in perspective

I only have one photo of mulitple game heads on a base but over the next year, that will change as I am working on a 2 whitetail head floor pedistal mount and will be doing a whitetail/muledeer pedistal mount and also a muledeer in velvet/whitetail in velvet double pedistal mount (just looking for a very early season whitetail cape still for that one).

Here are some pedistal mounts though, the important thing is if you have a taxidermist that has an artistic flare....tell them what you want and you generally will not be disappointed in what they come up with. As any artist, they always like the freedom to put their own creative juices into a piece. Pedistal mounts are usually reserved for a special animal as many of the posts on this thread are indicating so you definately want to do it right.

As Rich Melon's mount of his African Wildebeest shows, done by Curtis (Double Shovel), many people that are going to Africa are choosing to do African pedistals as they can take up less room and you can actually utilize floor space for shoulder mounts rather than walls that are filling up and you get to double up or thriple up for a very neat effect as Rich's (Curtis-Double Shovels) mount shows nicely.

Some wicked ideas there for multy pedistal mounts! You guys got me thinking now! A good way to save wall space, and/or make things work nice with low ceiling areas.

Ya, real tough to get em at the same time LOL, but if you get em doggy, and stack them, you can get pretty close!

Big Buck,

That mount looks great, I think that is what I'm going to go with. You had mentioned that you're not sure of the artist, I believe the background looks like the work of Double Shovel.

Double Shovel I almost used you on my caribou mount a few years ago. You had posted one you did right around that time that was excellent. Sugar Creek, I have seen some of you deer work and it looks great.

Maybe some day I will need another taxidermist, but right now I would feel like I'm cheating on him. lol

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
