Great job as always, Brian. Love the detail in the face and the pure bulk of that animals body. One of the toughest things to do as a taxidermist is take the time to mount your own animals....but also important too. Great work of art....next will be the dall and then the final leg of your grand slam......Congrats Brian......Marco

My first thought as well, not saying it's wrong, I have pics of at least a couple hundred rams and none look quite like that. I'd be interested in seeing field pic (bigger than avatar, it does kind of look like that in avatar)

Mounts really do look great!

Nice sheep, and congratulations. I'm not judging your taxidermist work, as I have never ever attempted to do this type of work. I have had some heads done, and it is my personal preference to leave the mouth area more like in your field photos. Your mount is smiling in my view, and doesn't seem to me to be as natural as it could be. Just my preference, I would love to be the owner of either of these mounts. Just saying the smile takes a bit of the character away from the field photo, and isn't that what we are trying to imitate when we have an animal mounted?

Congratulations

If you haven't nothing positive to say then keep quit this isn't about what people think of or don't..

I never intended to offend anyone, if you read my post you would note I said my personal preference. I too like looking at sheep pictures and appreciate your posting them.
I didn't realize posting ones own preference was an on offense on this site. How many pictures of live wild sheep do you see grazing or on the side of the road that are smiling?

I have a question for ya Bearen, are Stone sheep's necks really that skinny compared to Bighorn's? I can't say as I've ever really looked before. And I don't have any of my own to compare :(, someday I hope lol.

like deer, their appearance varies a lot depending on where they come from, and what time of year they are shot. i have a friend that thinks my sheep looks odd with a skinny neck and mottled coat. mine was taken opening day in august. his winter coat was just starting to come in and he has a little pencil neck compared to his last day, oct 31 winter coat swollen necked ram that was gearing up for the rut.

i dont know when this stone was killed, but i know the bighorn was taken in november. bighorns are a little bigger heavier animal than a stone, but i would guess the biggest reason for what you are asking is what i explained. that same stone would have looked different in mid november. you have seen that here on the forum with deer taken in early september vs late november.

hi matt the stone sheep was shot aug -9th and the bighorn was shot nov-19 so the hair is much longer if the stone sheep was shot later its neck would look shorter and fuller looking hope that answers your question brian

Nice mounts!

I have to ask, Don't respond if your not comfortable, But what did these mounts run ya' ?

a sheep mount starts at 4500.00 then the base is extra. in this case the walnut base is 1500.00 extra. brian

yes i use my own casted septums on sheep mounts as they come into the shop with tages in there nose and they get some what ripped up so i find it does a better job useing a septum. good eye brian

6k seems reasonable. Would it be in the same ballpark for a 7' Black bear mount?

The same reason I haven't posted any of my stuff on here, we always get the armchair taxidermists who have to knock others work. If the poster doesn't ask for your opinion on the taxidermy keep yer yap shut. All you're doing is reducing the enjoyment of the posters when they look at their mounts.

Nice sheep, I wish I could get one some day.
