I'm thinking about getting a folding knife with some of my Christmas money. Will use mostly for hunting/skinning. Which one is your favourite and why?

Sure like my CRKT 21-14sf, very tough. Would buy another if I lost it. Would be a little work to clean if you used it for skinning though. I carry it every day. I like it as my light camping knife. So many options out there, that's for sure.

I have several knives including Buck. The ones I now use the most are the Outdoor Edge Swing Blaze and the Havalon Piranta. Both are awesome knives, the Havalon works great for skinning and caping. :sSig_cool2:

Yup. Got a few Puma's. Hard to do any better. Puma General (basically a Prince with a synthetic grip methinks)is on my belt right now and it and one other (Puma Sergeant) have been there for 27 years.

Just for interest sake I prefer the horizontal type cordura sheath as they lay flat against your belt and you don't even feel them there.

I've used em for guting but you do need to take care if they have a clip point, which a lot of Puma folders have. A drop pt is better for gutting if you have one handy.

Still, all in all, for an all-round folder...Puma ..by a long shot....and yes I've had and have a bunch of others.

CRKT mini my tighe. Great steal, good grip, and always fun to watch people struggle with trying to close it LoL

Not a fan of folding knives. I do have a gerber folder that is poor steel. My favorite knife is a cutco drop point skinner. Excellent steel. Actually gutted and skinned my entire moose this year without the need to sharpen. Whatever knife you decide i reccomend you look at the grade of steel and wiki it. Some good information on wiki that explains different steel.

i have a Puma folding Jaegarmeister that I have in my pack when hunting, but haven't carried a lock back knife since Gerber brought out the Multi Plier- before that it was a small Puma or a Gerber.

I'm pretty fond of Kershaw's assisted opening system, very fast. Like a legal switchblade...

Browning.

It holds an edge, has a solid lock, textured handle when things get a bit gooey and a saw blade that will actually cut through a brisket. Much better than a Buck for that sort of job.

Thanks guys! I will have a look at some of the knives mentioned above. I have a couple of fixed blade knives, but for some reason I got an itch for a folder. Here's a custom made knife by a very good friend of mine. Those are the two shells I used to take my very first buck and a piece of his antler. He made it for me as a gift... I have some awesome friends :)

always liked my small coldsteel folding knife with the sheath that sits sideways on my belt instead of hanging down.
believe it or not but you can buy a combo folding knife/multitool at home depot for 10 bucks and the knife is very high quality. made by stanely

Emerson CQC-10 or my Al Mar Sere. Can't go wrong with a Spydie or Benchmade either.

For backpacking or where weight is an issue hard to beat a Havalon. For everyday use or where weight doesn't matter pick something else.

Kershaw Blur
Spyderco Endura 4 FFG
Spyderco Manix 2 Translucent
Spyderco Tenacious
Kershaw Volt SS (awesome new high value knife)
Boker Plus Titan Drop
Kershaw Leek

Some of my favorites, there are many more, but the top 3 in my list are probably my absolute favorites.

Gerber gator. With or without the half serrated blade. Still grippable(sp?) even when soaked with water or blood. Can go through a can of beans or seatbelt strap. Cuts a mean pineapple. Carried one travelling in my carry-all back in the day when a folding kniife doesn't make you a terrorist suspect. Still carry one as a spare knife in my hunting pack and the other always travels with me.

I couldn't afford the Benchmade I wanted and ended up with a Spyderco, which I quite like. I have a couple now. Can't recall the exact models, but that's kind of a personal preference anyway.

I've looked at a bunch of different knives and decided to go with a good old Buck 110. Something about that classic look and locking mechanism that kept me coming back to it... Sebenza would have been nice, but out of my price reach at this point. I've waited for about half an hour at Bass Pro to get someone to help me just to find out that they don't have any more in a box, and they wouldn't sell me the one on display (I'm starting to dislike that place a lot...), so I went to Wal-mart and picked one up for cheaper.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I have the swing blade by outdoor edge, great knife, aus8 steal and is always sharp, if you prefer a a more compact folding version than the flip n zip works great,( i like the swing blade more)
