Lake Sundance has recently seen multiple open water holes form quick...from large enough to put your foot through to one large enough to drop a car in.
The cause seems to be ice cracks and snow weight pushing the ice down causing water to rush up. The 4 degree water erodes the ice enlarging the crack into a hole. With the temperatures fluctuating, ice cracks and pressure ridges can make for unsafe conditions daily.
So hey...let's be careful out there!
