I have been looking for a camera that i can use to start filming my hunts through out the hunting seasons. It would need to be small enough that i could mount it to my bow or wear it on a head strap, yet still give quality video. I have been debating between the contour roam 2, and the Gopro Hero 3(silver or white edition). Does anyone have any experience with either camera? If so how is the overall quality? Any other suggestions?

I have the contour, not horribly impressed.

Hero 3 Black is probably the best P.O.V camera on the market...

Welcome to the forum bullwinkle97,

Take this info for what it's worth… you're actually comparing apples & oranges with these two. The Go Pro your talking about is a couple of leagues up from that particular Contour model & has a ton more features. For a better comparison you'd have to go to the Contour+2. Nevertheless, let's really look at what matters out in the field while videoing an actual hunt. Strictly hunting, nothing else. First of all forget about all the options that Go Pro has except for the wireless remote & video preview ( optional ). Your main concern will be either slow action like deer, bear & coyote or fast action like waterfowl. Both the cams have these covered with either 1080p, 30fps
( slow ) or 720P, 60fps ( fast ). The rest of the features the go pro has is specialty stuff. The quality of audio is probably the same on both but on the Go Pro 3 the video quality will be better because of the optics compared to the raom2.

What about practicality & ease of use… here's the kicker that get's my vote every single time. I've tried both several times & honestly, that Go Pro is a pain in the behind trying to get it adjusted to where you want it. The contour has a 270° rotating lens that is absolutely worth it's weigh in gold. No messing around... Easy as pie.

This is just my opinion & I know that I'm in the minority because the Go Pro users out there are gonna rip me a new one but…. BUT… that simple rotating lens really is the kicker for me. If your impartial to the lens option then I'd absolutely go with the Go Pro 3. Quality will be quite a bit higher IMO… if you can line it up right that is… lol…

Have fun man

Don't have one, but I would be tempted by the Go Pro Hero 3.
