Fishing Alberta with 2 rods.

I see threads like this every week in the Guns and Shooting section. What would you guys pick if you had to fish alberta with two rods?

A 7' medium action spinning rod spooled with 10 lb line, and a 9' 6wt fly rod would probably keep me pretty happy.

guess it would depend on where your fishing but in catch and release areas i personally am in favour of 2 rods though i know lots of people would disagree.

uglystick tiger rod spinning model for sturgeon from the boat and an 8 foot ugly big water for sturgeon from shore. anything else is just fish :bad_boys_20:

I would pick my 9ft 5wt fly rod and a plain old tipup. Those are my two most used rods.

Two rods only huh, well be a 6'8" St Croix walleye series spinning rod for jigging and then a 7'10" Tour KVD MH Moderate Action casting rod to use for trolling and cranking.

still maintain that it depends where your fishing and what species available
1 stocked trout pond...2 8' rods 8lbs. test
2 nsr... 10' berkley rod 30lbs test for pic rig and 8 eagle claw 10lbs test for casting
3 pike/perch lake...8'or10' rod with heavy line for lungers and an6'or8' rod light line for perch

if the op is asking what you would keep if you were only allowed to own 2 rods period then i'd go with number 2 and change lines as needed but it would leave a person s*** out of luck when ice fishing started.

For my 2 rods which I would choose if I can only own two rods for all purpose:
I would have my 9' Shimano steelhead rod paired with an Abu Ambassadeur bait reel for sturgeon; and a good 8' medium weight, Mitchell combo with 12lb braided line for everything in between. Adding the spring bobbers for lighter fish species as needed.

PS> good thing we are not limited to only having 2 rods. This question took me a little while to decide.

1. Spincast open face with a Williams Worbler as a flasher and a Green Doc Spratley size 8 :sHa_shakeshout:

2. Spincast open face with a Shad Rap size 5 to 7 even 9:47b20s0:

3. Fly Rod full sink with a fly /use lots of differn,t for trout:happy0180:

4. Fly Rod floating with a Chronamid or Micro Leach:waiting4:

using only one at a time

and if i could use 2 one would be full sink and spin when trolling :D

or 2 flyrods... floating indicator /sinking tip stripping it in when anchored:bad_boys_20:

We bring no less than six rods between the two of us and each rod is set up with a different rigging... two rods are for single trips,, one for bait one for spinning,, though never at the same time.

Yeah, me and my wife usualy take at least two or three rods each, what those rods are depends on where we're going. With my kids getting a little older I need to cut back, only so much room for rods in the boat/shed/camper. Dont know if I can cut back to two though.

On second thought I think I would have to go with my 7 Medium action Ugly stick spinning rod spooled with 10 lb mono, and my 6' medium light Fenwick Eagle GT with 6lb mono. As much as I would hate to give up fly fishing I feel I can better cover more situations with two spinning rods than any other combination. Now that the family is a bigger part of my fishing efforts the flyfishing tends to be more of an indulgent habit that inconveninces everyone else anyways.

I only use 2 rods as is even though I own 8 at this point.

The Clarus sells for 20$'s right now and is a beast of a rod. I honestly don't know which one I prefer. I actually think the better question is which rod length does everyone prefer because once you try a 9' you don't really want to go back to a 6' 6"

Do you pull the treble off of the Wabler? I've fished the rig you speak of and although it works well I've had lots of tangles when casting it. For trolling it works good though, I use a chrome and blue Len Thompson myself.

Except when you want to catch fish instead of air-drying flies...then you will need a good spinning rod. :sHa_shakeshout:

For me it would be a med. action or med. light spinning rod with a nice shimano spinning reel and 15lb Suffix 832

As well, a 5wt fly fishing rod with a WF floating line.

Between those two rods, not much you can't catch in AB...except sturgeon.

yes and add a swivel(Park only one hook allowed) .. mostly trolling but have casted if your only 16 inches not much tangles.. medium size and half gold/silver.. for Maligne Lake mainly but works on any trout lake
