Jr and I both had a rare saturday off and took advantage of the opportunity to hit the ice. we experienced typical mountain weather. things started off bright and calm, sun shinning and the fish biting. the afternoon brought the clouds in and a high wind which blew and swirled the snow hard across the lake. the blowing snow made finding holes and keeping them open while fishing quite the task. the bite slowed around noon but picked up again before last light. it was a great outing as always with the boy and i think the fish landed count ended up even by days end. enjoy some pics from our trip.

A few of Those Bull have recessed gill plates, a Fish biologist I was Fishing with a few Years ago told me that what it was on these Bulls.

i've heard several times this damage likely occurred in the hatchery. we catch many fish missing gill plates. some one, others both sides. also many with missing pectoral fins.

kinwahkly, can i ask which Bio shared this info with you? i've never heard of a recessed gill plate condition. did a quick search on it as well and didn't find much.

a DSLR would be a lot to pack around most places i venture Brandon. my camera is a little point and shoot. canon powershot 780is. i've had it for a few years now and it's still taking pretty decent pictures.

I was Fishing the upper lakes in the spring of 2010 , game warden and a FISh biologist from Lethbridge was with him, i caught some Bulltrout from shore and he mentioned the gill plates , didnt get his name at the time.

I have seen that condition (recessed gill plates) on bulls before. I thought it was a fluke until it started to show up on a handful of fish out of that same lake.
