Curious how many people run Marine radios in their boats. Toying with the idea of adding one to my new Tracker. Had one in my boat in BC and it was useful there as people chatted on the Shuswap and the coat, but not sure about Alberta. Might be a nice bit of extra insurance.

Can't speak of up north. the only lake I know of with any chatter south of Edmonton is gull from the sailing club.

I've had mine for a couple of years now and haven't heard much at all on it except the Wx.
I usually only running from Wabamun and points north.
Still a good idea for safety as far as I am concerned.

I run one in my boat. Can't say as i got for our local waters I primarily use it when out on the west coast, weather warnings mostly and drop in the the local guide chatter. I have turned it on a few times on Cold Lake and scanned but have never picked up on any chatter. Personally for our part of the world I don't think I would waste my money.

Will most likely pick one up if only for my BC trips.

Don't forget you need a 'restricted operators license' to use one. Might not be a big deal in Alberta, but i Know in BC, they will ask you for your license. I took the course, very informative.

I will need to get back to you on model , i'm 3 hrs nw of FT MAC for 2 weeks. Its a Lowrance 8-- something , was in a boat I bought from the USA last spring. Only a couple years old , has an antennae , looks new. Just sitting in a box collecting dust. The radio would ship easy , antennae would be costlier(?) to ship. $40 would be good to move it. Need a Minnkota charger ?
