Looks like a homemade spear. Looking at the angle of the spear it must be from ground level.

I first saw this boar while driving with my kids, no rifle, bow or even a usable knife. My boys were super excited and told me to go get him then but that obviously wouldn't work.

It took me a week to finally catch up with the land owner who reluctantly gave me permission to access his property but made it clear thus was a one time deal, don't bother him again.

I gathered up my Bow and a spear that i had made from birch off my property, and headed out at first light bringing my German Shepard Solomon(sol). When I got on site I left the bow in the truck and headed off with the dog into the bush where I had see the boar enter. There was an obvious V groove boar trail that I followed. 4-500 m into the bush Sol was alerted by some movement off to my left that I hadn't noticed, and the hunt was on. The boar bolted. Sol followed slowing him down by clamping down on his rear. Apparently this was unpleasant because the boar turned on him and reversed the chase headed back to me (I was in persuit but significantly slower than them). I was ready with the spear but the boar was smart enough to realize what was coming. He took off again with Sol on his tail. This continued for about five minutes. With the depth of the snow and the intensity of the action, after five everyone was getting pretty tired, me the dog and the boar( thankfully).

The boar was standing maybe five meters away from me and Sol was right beside me. I decided to take a better tactical position by moving 90deg to the left so Sol and I could attack from two different angles. The boar picked up on this advantage of ours and bolted. Sol was on him in a second, so he went offensive and made a bee line at me. He had no where to go Sol chasing behind and me directly in front of him.

I held the spear and lunged into him with all my might and got a solid hit right behind the head in front if the right shoulder. It hit knocked him to the ground and I applied all my weight on the spear. He was tired. It still had lots of fight. Even with me holding down the spear, kneeling on him and sol grabbing his feet he was able to get up several times! I was impressed with his strength and determination. When he finally gave up the fight I thought the spear hit would bleed him out but he needed to be bled from the neck to finish.

That's awesome to take it with a home made spear on the ground!:sHa_shakeshout:
I think the deep snow gave you a big advantage!:)

After reading your account of the hunt, I'm picturing that you also had a large knife in your teeth and were wearing a loincloth and some smudge from a campfire. Any attempt at one-upmanship would have to be an entire wolf pack taken with just a rock and a trained squirrel! Thanks for sharing!

This one time I was in a plane crash in Alaska. Me and all the survivors were pursued relentlessly by a pack of wolves. At long last it came down to just me vrs the alpha male so i taped a knife to one hand and some broken liquor bottles to the other. But unfortunatley I think I died.

Unlike this god among men who kills boars with a spear. Wow. I tip my hat to you sir, i tip my hat. You need to be on a whiskey commercial at the very least. Well done.

i think the spear will penetrate better if the spear head is broader and thicker then the handle... like a shape of a fat walleye with a handle in the mouth .

One question, " did the spear then get used as the rotisserie spit for an Albertans luau?"

AC-hunter

didn't use the spear as a rotisserie, Despite my wife's wishes it now stands in the dining room.
