Getting a white to bite hard enough would be tricky, but I would say that not too violent of a hook set for a white. Maybe make sure you use mono as a line and not braid.

I think it would work good for walleye, pike and perch too provided you can keep the line and trigger thred from freezing into the ice.

wow, some people have to much time on their hands to create such cumbersome "monster" device for fishing. Not impressed:sign0068:

maybe set a loose line on the mouse trap to the line pole the it won't pull as hard/fast . :sign0176:

FYI those victory mouse trap got a killer spring and @ time can be a hard to set, i got my self on the thumb a few time:sign0068:.. maybe go for a another brand
also check out Beeguy's auto fish design, a few post down it's pretty user friendly.

I have made on of those because of boredom it works great once i completed it. I tryed it fishing but never caught any fish on it. It only works if you use a rat trap it has more power than just a mouse trap. Good luck

Wouldn't it be easier to get a dark tent and sight fish for them?

I think the one I made would work better than that.

You can adjust the trigger tension as well as the rod angle/hook set force

I just keep picturing a whitefish getting his head ripped off! Lol, they hit so light alot of the time they would probably spit it before they pulled hard enough... Better try it and video it!

Would the regs allow it? Pretty sure theres something in the regs about lines being spring loaded.

I built one similar many years ago. Mine also uses a rat trap. Only thing different is that I attached the end of a fly rod to the rat trap and a fly reel for line onto the base. I never did use it. I don't think you can according to the regs.

But it was a fun kind of thing to build.

I built a auto fisherman, sorta the same. Can very how much you bend the rod down for hook set hardness. Will trigger if the hook is pulled lightly and also when the weight of the hook is lifted off the line. Very sensetive. Just depends on how you bend your wire (trigger) that the line goes thru.
